    Restarting a stuck wash?

Brilliant news! I wasn't aware that was how yeast worked, i thought that you could kill a portion of the yeast leaving a half fermented brew. The yeast i used was a dreaded Alcotec. I used the 48 dual function, which is surposed to be the most temperature tolerant yeast out there. On the packet...

    Restarting a stuck wash?

Is it possible to restart a stuck wash? I am pretty sure that I pitched the yeast too hot and it has killed some yeast. Original Gravity was 1.127 now it is 1.060 after 13 days since pitching. Quite abit longer that the suggested 5 days on the yeast packet. Is there a way to kick this back...

    Magnum VS. On The Rocks?

Hi, i am thinking of starting a cider kit and was wondering if Magnum or On The Rocks was better? The reason i ask between these two is because these are the brands available to me. If someone has made both, would really appreciate some tips as to how to brew best and/or which flavours are...

Am I calculating this Gravity right?

Sorry my mistake, in total it is 22.7 litres. So following your approximation 22.7 - 4.8 = 17.9 meaning it is must be 8kg into 17.9 litres, do you know what the OG would be for these stats? possibly would it be; 8000 / 17.9 = 446.9g per l 446.9 x 0.0003835 = 1.171 ?? Thanks for your help. :)

Am I calculating this Gravity right?

I have added 8 kg of sugar to 5 gallons (22.7 litres) of water in order to try and ferment to as close to 20%ABV as possible. I didnt take an original gravity reading and i am trying to figure out what it would be. if 0.0003835 is what 1g of sugar adds to 1L of wort, is it as simple as...

Will this Alcotec 48 brew work? and is it safe?

I have just started this off about an hour ago. I followed the instructions on the Alcotec 48; I got my water to exactly 40 degrees with 8kg of sugar disolved in it. Then pitched the yeast. This is what it says to do on the packet, but I must admit it seems a little hot to not damage the yeast...

Will this Alcotec 48 brew work? and is it safe?

I deicded to use some liquid activated Carbon as its easier and you can add it straight to the wash, leave it for 24hours to filter all out the nasty smell/taste, then treat it with TurboKlar and rack it off. :)

Will this Alcotec 48 brew work? and is it safe?

Yeah i was thinking that this might be nessessary in order to get the clearest/cleanest wash. I think i might just buy another 25L plastic fermenter and just use the demijohn to rack off into before bottling :thumb:

Will this Alcotec 48 brew work? and is it safe?

Thanks, i think i may have been a slight bit hasty in buying the glass demijohn, as it seems obvious that a plastic fermenter bucket is lighter/easier/cheaper/safer. Haha...spose it will suit storing the finished product nicely. Is there any job that a 5 gallon demijohn is particularly useful?

Will this Alcotec 48 brew work? and is it safe?

Hi, I am about to start a brew using Alcotec 48 dual function turbo yeast. I am going to attempt to put 8kg of sugar into the 21 litres that it recommends to make the nessesary 25 litre target. I was then planning on clearing it using a TurboKlar and then putting some liquid activated Carbon...
