    Festival Belgian Dubbel 'Kriek'

Just thought I would give a bit of an update on this. 3 weeks bottle conditioning and curiosity got the better of me so I cracked a bottle open to see what it was like. To be honest it wasn't bad. But what I appear to have ended up with is a sour beer. I don't get much cherry coming through at...

    Bottles.

See my thread here for thought on that. https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/commercial-swing-tops-vs-homebrew-seller-supplied.106015/ I have deliberately purchased a crate of German Beer, Hacker-Pschorr make a great selection in Swing tops. I also managed to buy 54 Grolsh bottles from...

    Festival Belgian Dubbel 'Kriek'

Let’s hope I haven’t ruined it then. If anything I have made this £20 more expensive to produce. But I guess it’s good to learn these things.

    Festival Belgian Dubbel 'Kriek'

So I bottled this yesterday and not sure it is working out as I would have hoped. This was supposed to be an 18ltr brew but I only ended up with 15ltrs. Lost a lot to the trub. I did expect to have a bigger trub but more than I expected. When tasting I didn’t get any cherry notes, although it...

Dry hopped beer should be consumed within 6 months

Is this true? I brewed a beerworks kit, and this is what said in the instructions

FREE - 21 Claret Style Wine Bottles (collection only from Faringdon, Oxfordshire.)

As the title suggests. I have 21 Wine bottles, green claret style that I aquired as part of an eBay purchase of homebrew equipement. My interest was mainly in the 200+ beers bottles included in the sale and as I don't intent to brew wine, these wine bottle are surplus to requirements. Available...

Commercial Swing-tops vs Homebrew seller Supplied

Yes, I had a good look at the difference in the stoppers today and that is where I feel the issue lies. The Hacker-Pschorr stopper appears to have the rubber seal molded onto the "ceramic" stopper. and the shape is flater around the seal. I am not sure the seals on these can be replaced. The...

Commercial Swing-tops vs Homebrew seller Supplied

Feel you,ve miss understood what I was saying. I am not comparing commercial beer carbonation to homebrew. I am recycling the commercial glass bottles to use with my homebrew and there is a noticable difference in carbonation between thew two types of bottle with the same batch of homebrew.

Commercial Swing-tops vs Homebrew seller Supplied

Maybe a bit of a misleading title but I have a mixture of Swing-tops that I have either purchased empty from one of the online homebrew suppliers or originally came filled with German Beer, namely Hacker-Pschorr. I have noticed quite distinctly a difference between the carbonation experienced...

    Festival Belgian Dubbel 'Kriek'

Thanks for your input. I hadn't considered the sour element to the fermentation to be honest and assumed that would come with the cherries being on the sharp side. However, the suggestion of adding the yeast sidiment from a couple of Orval is an interesting idea. Been a while since I have had...

    Festival Belgian Dubbel 'Kriek'

So I am now at day 8 of the brew and it appears it may have stopped. PILL is reading a steady SG of 1.012 for the last 24hrs. The kit instructions suggest the FG should be in the region of 1.006. However, I have added fruit puree so would this affect the expected FG level? The Wort Temp has been...

    Festival Belgian Dubbel 'Kriek'

So I am a fan of the Belgian brown kriek beers such as Kasteel Rouge, Petrus Aged Red or Bacchus Kriek. These are all based on a Belgian brown beer aged with cherries. So I thought I would attempt to make my own using the Festival Belgian Dubbel kit, with the addition of Cherry Puree, added...

    Dry hopping techniques

Once the dry hops have been added, is there a limit in days that the hops should remain in the brew? Asking because I have added the hop pellets to the brew (Beerworks Brasseris golden Larger) on day 5, kit instructions say test SG on day 10, which has now passed. The Hops were added direct to...

    Another Newbie Says Hi

Hi all. Been lurking for a couple of months now as have taken up brewing beer following being gifted a Brewkit starter bundle for my birthday from the wife. This came about after I had saved a load of German Beer (Hacker pschorr) flip tops, saying i might have a go at making beer, so will hold...
