    Spingo Blue Anchor

Just venturing in here to re-energise. Had my first Spingo Middle Ale today and: wow. Straight into my top 5 all time beers. How have I not know this exists? Any clone recipe tips would be hugely appreciated.

    Butcombe original clone recipe?

Hi homebrewers For my 9th brew I’d like to do a Butcombe Original clone. Please can someone point me to a good recipe? Thanks

Greg hughes single hop pale ale

I’m not the world’s best brewer but my word I nailed this one. Just had my first bottle tonight after a February brew, it’s still got 4 weeks before it is fully conditioned. Delicious.

Amarillo Single Hop Ale - Greg Hughes

Brewed this in Feb for the first time. I’ll be honest, I’m not exactly nailing this BIAB hobby but my word, this has turned out to be a superb homebrew.

Opinions: Do you leave your whole hops in the fermenter?

Hi All I’m researching whether to sieve my whole hops out between the boil and fermentation or keep them in. The context for this question is a sharp bitterness than unfortunately accompanies many of my brews, no matter what IBU I’m aiming for. I am taking steps to lower my mash pH. My two...

Rescuing low OG with sugar, do I need to add further sugar for conditioning?

Hi All 8 brews into my new hobby of homebrew (brew in the bag). Having slight mare with latest batch. I think I was mashing at a lower temperature than my new temperature device was reading and ended up at an OG of 1029 instead of 1050. I was making an Amarillo pale ale. I used these forums to...

Leffe Blonde clone: experience of using cloves and vanilla?

Just to follow up on this thread after many many weeks of waiting for the beer to come good. It was a disaster. The beer still tastes of ash, months after conditioning started. I am pretty sure this was down to scorched wort. The immersion element was black when I emptied the wort. Oh well...

What’s a good replacement for Ernest Hops?

Yes, Cellar Head Session Ale: Ernest, Challenger, Jester.

What’s a good replacement for Ernest Hops?

Wow, a new day a new discovery. Thank you.

What’s a good replacement for Ernest Hops?

Hi All I’ve received a recipe from Kent’s Cellar Head brewery. I want to do an amateur clone. Only issue is they’re specifying Ernest hops which are hard to get hold of and very expensive. Does anyone have experience of a good hop substitute? It’s for their Session Pale Ale which comes in at a...

Anyone done a Cellarhead session pale ale clone?

Thanks, I find this really interesting. I’d always thought brewers would be very guarded. I used their chat function and they gave me a very warm reply saying they will ping me the recipe on Monday.

Anyone done a Cellarhead session pale ale clone?

Hi All I wonder, is there a clone recipe for Cellarhead Session Pale Ale? I’m thinking it’s based around the Nelson Sauvin hops for the gooseberry flavours. Thanks

    Mashing temperature: variable throughout vessel

Thanks, also a scientist so I get it. My temps are cooler on top but up to 10oC hotter in the middle. And on the side of the heater with the element it is even higher. I’m trying not to overthink this as home brewing is meant to be my time away from my job so am tempted to just ignore it and...

    Mashing temperature: variable throughout vessel

Hi All Am I over thinking this? I aim for a mash of 66oC plus or minus 2oC. This is for BIAB. Using my thermometer stick I get very different readings around my vessel which is a plastic Peco immersion heater. I stir it vigorously and for a few minutes the temperature seems more uniform. But...

Leffe Blonde clone: experience of using cloves and vanilla?

https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/belgian-blonde-leffe-clone/ This is the one I’m following but with Belgian Abbey yeast. Am using rudimentary plastic brewing vessels and BIAB as it’s my 3rd brew. I’ll let you know how it goes. Will start sampling the bottles from end of Oct.

Leffe Blonde clone: experience of using cloves and vanilla?

Thanks for all your response. I’ve got a rather lovely fermentation going on in the garage and won’t be adding any flavours based on your advice.

Leffe Blonde clone: experience of using cloves and vanilla?

Hi All I'm now on my 3rd BIAB batch, learning fast and loving the hobby. My first batch is a passable attempt at a single hopped Kent pale ale, despite the emergency deployment of bread yeast! I'm attempting a Leffe Blonde clone because one of my relatives really rates it. After following the...
