    Festival - summer glory advice

Thanks @soupdragon but nope, there wasn’t any bag/sock The block on the end just restricts particles but without testing I’ve no idea just what size would make it through/be too large

    Festival - summer glory advice

@soupdragon - thanks for the reply I have one of the traditional type of syphons (see attached) although the end won’t catch the smaller sediment I’m guessing Are you suggesting a muslin type bag to wrap around the end also ?

    Festival - summer glory advice

Thanks for you input @Stu's Brews I’ve just checked on https://www.hopsteiner.com/uk/abv-calculator/ and using the OG of 1042 and SG of 1004 it’s showing an ABV of 4.99% so right on the 5% mentioned on the outer box Based on that I’m gonna bottle up Thanks again 👍

    Festival - summer glory advice

@Stu's Brews Here you go… The hydrometer is showing 1000 for water I’ve added a few photos of the top of the brew, the sample, lid etc Looks like the gravity is actually 1004 by my eyes 👀 Does the top of the brew look ok to you ? I tasted it and although weak, doesn’t taste off by my taste...

    Festival - summer glory advice

Thanks for the reply again Yes, my hydrometer looks to be fine (see attached photo) I’ll have a look at some of the links you shared And pop the lid off and take a photo If an airlock has run out of water, is that a possible way for what You have described to happen ? I’ve had to top up the...

    Festival - summer glory advice

Thanks @Stu's Brews and yes I agree that the gravity looks to be 1.002 So is a lower than suggested gravity a problem then from what you’re saying ? Personally, I didn’t know that, but I’d still class myself as a homebrew novice You say wild yeast or bacteria What would cause this please? This...

    Festival - summer glory advice

So I’ve taken my first gravity reading which it says to do after five days after adding the hops I actually did it on day seven after adding the hops, which I don’t think is a problem is it? Please see attached photo So what I’m wondering is for summer glory it says the gravity should be 1.009...

    Festival - summer glory advice

So isn’t it as simple as equally dividing the priming sugar across the 23l (minus a bit cus there’s always some left in the bucket), and popping it straight in to the bottles instead of using the secondary vessel to mix ? Or am I missing something ? Apologies for my still paranoia being only...

    Festival - summer glory advice

Thanks again @Stu's Brews My first kits didn’t have the need to add hops or used priming sugar either I used carbonation drops for those hence these two elements in this kit are new to me and got me thinking, or overthinking as the case, maybe 😁

    Festival - summer glory advice

Thanks for the reply @Stu's Brews unfortunately I’ve got a few further questions To add the hops the lid needs to come off so introduces oxygen and then it gets left for a further five days Then the instructions say to siphon into barrel or another container to add the priming sugar I...

Thanks for the reply @Clint So the manufacturers instructions that says add the hops after five days, That’s because in their mind the fermentation should’ve stopped then it seems ?

    Festival - summer glory advice

Hi again all I’m after a little advice regarding a festival summer glory brew that I kicked off on Sunday It says after five days to add the contents of the Hop pellet sachet, but not to stir and then to leave for a further five days before bottling, obviously after checking the fermentation...

Wherry - Day 11 SG query and glass bottle cleaning

Tried the spinning trick but didn’t move many @Rwilts Looks like when I started it was around 1038 but I agree looks like 1008 The instructions say needs to be consistently below 1014 so I’ll take another reading tomorrow and if I get the same I’ll get bottling 😀

Wherry - Day 11 SG query and glass bottle cleaning

So today is day 14 so with no activity for a good few days in the airlock I’ve taken a hydrometer reading See attached photos Is it just me or is it really difficult to read accurately due to the bubbles or am I being thick ? I saw a guy in the USA on YouTube using a refractometer….does...

Wherry - Day 11 SG query and glass bottle cleaning

@allotment_fox - have you had any bottles break with the Wherry due to over carb'ing ? on my previous brew which was my first ever (a St Peters Ruby), i did 1 drop, 1.5 drops and 2 drops in 10 bottles each, and then the remaining 8 bottles were 1/2 tsp some of the 1 droppers were flat but i'm...

Wherry - Day 11 SG query and glass bottle cleaning

Hey @allotment_fox thanks for reply I assume you mean “don’t” hurry it, not do, correct ? Re: sugar, I was going to use 1, 1.5 and 2 carbonation drops, and some with 1/2 tspn granulated sugar From your experience of the Wherry, which would you suggest ?
