Thinking of a festive brew with chestnuts. What d'you think?

Thanks graysalchamey, good read. Right, I'm up for it. Think I'll roast and mash some nuts, then roast more and bash up small to go in fv2. Just need to get my hands on some chestnuts now - don't get many down here in Cornwall.

Thinking of a festive brew with chestnuts. What d'you think?

Thanks Calum, I was thinking along the same lines in FV2 - I'm doing a chocolate and cherry stout at the mo and going for that approach. And thanks for the Cock Ale post, it actually links closely to another idea I had, cheers.

Thinking of a festive brew with chestnuts. What d'you think?

Hi all, I've started thinking towards Xmas already, more for selfish reasons than for thoughtful gift ideas, but I'm contemplating going for a spicy winter recipe with roast chestnuts in too. I know that anything with fat in comes with its problems, but I'm not particularly fussed about head...

AG x: Prunus Theobroma Chocolate Cherry Stout

Thanks Rich, I think I'll go for a handfull of of fresh cherries then - leave the stones in and cook them down with a bit of water and sugar then add to fv1 and 2.

AG x: Prunus Theobroma Chocolate Cherry Stout

Hi all, After reading through your recipe I've spent all day looking for the lowicz cherry syrup you're on about but cannot find it anywhere - living in Cornwall is always interesting if you're after something other than root vegetables... Anyway, can anyone offer a substitute? How would...

Did anyone have a go at this? If so, how did it turn out? I'd love to give it a go.

Would a crystal malt only recipe work?

Cheers Dave. That's really helpful thanks. And thanks to everyone. That's my curiosity satisfied.

Would a crystal malt only recipe work?

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to all this, but I'd rather go for things that are a bit different and was wondering what people thought of doing a crystal only brew - or a majority crystal brew, substituting it for the usual pale. Would it just be too sweet? Don't have a recipe in mind yet...

My first AG Brew - is temperature in FV critical?

Not too much offence taken. I guess so. I've read a lot about AG brewing, but I prefer to learn by doing - and if there's help at hand on here, then why not utilise it?

My first AG Brew - is temperature in FV critical?

Much obliged. Better write a keep off note then - more to myself than anyone.

My first AG Brew - is temperature in FV critical?

This should illuminate my set-up in all its glory. Thanks for the help. Also, I know this is another question, but with conditioning, is the rule of a week per 10 OG points a good one to go with?

My first AG Brew - is temperature in FV critical?

Thanks everyone. Air temp is 18 and the wort is 20 degrees, so I'm happy with that. abeyptfc - I guess it's an amber(ish) ale that should be pretty hoppy with EKGs, Northen Brewer and Cascade aroma hops... And I do have a few pictures. How do you upload them? I think this will be the first of...

My first AG Brew - is temperature in FV critical?

Hi all, Yesterday was my first foray into all grain brewing and I think I have the bug already. I have read a lot on this forum and in books about the processes, and it seems to be a trail and error business - which I'm excited about. I would appreciate a bit of guidance with regards to...
