Second AG brew - cloudy beer

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. No finings were used - one to bear in mind for future. I cold crashed in the loose sense of the phrase overnight. I don't have a tap on the ferm bin and syphon off from just above the trub. I do find it frustating this way as i always seem to drag up bubbles...

Second AG brew - cloudy beer

Hi, thanks for coming back to me on this one. The corny is in a fridge at around 4c and the pressure set at around 5psi. I haven't tried leaving a glass overnight to check the results, I will see what happens. However, i did bottle some of the beer and it's just as hazy as out of the keg. I'm...

Second AG brew - cloudy beer

Just by way of an update, it might not be pretty to look at for a bitter but it hasn't really affected the taste. Happy with this.

Second AG brew - cloudy beer

Thanks foxy. I didn't realise mash pH could affect beer (I always check the reading with cider and i know what to do if any corrections are needed). I always treat the sparge water with 1/2 a campden tablet and leave for an hour or so to neutralise the chlorine - is there anything i can do in...

Second AG brew - cloudy beer

Thanks jof. I don't think it's the weather. The ferm bin was in the fridge at a constant 20c and been there for 17 days and the SG reading 1018 had been static for 3 days. This was still a bit higher than i would have liked and i didn't really want to leave in there any longer. However, the day...

Second AG brew - cloudy beer

Bouyed by the success of my first brew, Robs Export Porter, i went for Robs English ESB. Brew day was 17/11 and I fermented in ferm fridge at 20c. Cold crashed for 24 hours and transferred to corny/bottles today. really struggled to get down to the target FG of 1012 and settled for 1018 so the...

    First AG brew

After much trepidation I took the leap of faith into the all grain brewing world. First effort is Robs Export Porter from MM in my Brewzilla gen4. Despite some school boy errors mainly leaving the lid on the boil!! What a mess when it boils over😳. At the end of the sparge I had lost a couple's...

League one and two football thread

A lot of pressure on Derby County this season. Everyone expecting them to be go straight back up. But look at Sunderland how long did it take them to get back to the championship. It will take time for the players to gel but one thing's for sure the dcfc fans will be right behind them and sell...

League one and two football thread

Looking forward to following DCFC next season in League 1. Living in Cheltenham there's some good away days/weekends coming up. Can't wait to go back to Nailsworth for the FGR game. Last time I was there was a few years ago 3rd round FA Cup. Had to stand in the home end as couldnt get any away...

    Hop pellets

Tanglefoot/Pilgrimhudd, thanks for your comments. I think I'll put 50gms in and keep the rest back for another brew and mix up with cascade. Cheers.

    Hop pellets

I was given a Coopers American IPA kit for Christmas which i started yesterday. I intend to add some Simcoe dry hop pellets towards the end of primary fermentation. I guess it all comes to taste preference but will 100g of pellets be too much?

My stouts always get stuck during fermenting.

That makes a lot of sense now MartinF. Yeah there must have been a good Kg bag of it that was added at the start of fermentation.

My stouts always get stuck during fermenting.

Hi. I've just brewed my first stout. Muntons Flagship Milk Stout and had the same problem. It was in the FV 28 days! OG 1060, final reading 1024. 19l went into a corny and the rest bottled with half TSP of dextrose to prime. The bottles are stood in an empty fern bin with the lid on in case...

    Basic Brewing Kit

I can definitely recommend the Flagship range and Hazy IPA is probably my favourite. I've got the Milk Stout kit on the go atm ready for Christmas :beer1:
