I appreciate what you say, but I heard the Waverley described as a Clyde Puffer when I was onboard. I don't remember who said it, but I just accepted it as a valid description of the old girl.

    Currywurst . . . . . A classic German fast food dish. A perfect accompaniment to a cold glass of Pils 😋

    The Waverley's engine . . . . . Isn't it beautiful?

The 'Waverley' sailing out of Largs harbour. The Waverley is the last of the 'Clyde Puffers' and is the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. Built in 1946, she sailed from Craigendoran on the Firth of Clyde to Arrochar on Loch Long until 1973. The boat now runs tourist...

I believe that following a meeting with US Government officials during WW2, Winston Churchill was quoted as saying "Divided by a common language". He was renowned for his wit. ;)

The Glenfinnan (a.k.a. Harry Potter) viaduct on board The Jacobite between Mallaig and Fort William. . . . . Absolutely stunning scenery. The photo does not really do it justice.

    Refractometer focus

For several years of using a refractometer to check approx. OG readings I have struggled to read the result clearly because the numbers and the scale were always slightly blurred. I put it down to my failing eyesight, so I squinted and soldiered on. Anyway, today I discovered something which may...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Whirlpool arm modification

Good point . . . . You could put a short length of silicon tube over the end of the whirlpool arm and then insert a short length of 15mm copper tube into that. This could be easily flattened to whatever size of opening appears to work best. Also, if it did get blocked with hop bits it could be...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Whirlpool arm modification

Nice simple idea  I was also very disappointed with the performance of the Bz whirlpool arm. I tried bushing the ss tube down to a smaller diameter. It gives a better jet of liquid, and improved things a bit, but there is still not a particularly good 'whirl'. This looks like a much...

Weirdest question? How to dry tubing?

After playing helicopters I use my aquarium aerator pump (normally used for aerating the wort prior to pitching the yeast) to blow air through the tube for an hour or so. I hang it vertically, and blow the air in from the top.

Looks like the back end of an Anglia 105E. I had one in my early days of car ownership . . . . . You could see daylight through the floor on the driver's side 😬

    The gamechanger!

Buy good quality ingredients, and store them properly, e.g. store grains in a cool dry place, and store hops in the freezer. . . . . . . Back in the olden days, when I first started brewing, good information was scarce, and the quality of ingredients was poor. Most homebrew shops did not store...

Taken in the small town of Kampen whilst on holiday in the Netherlands. I've no idea what the story behind the name is.
