    Fertilizer

Ok thanks for the replies but I'm confused :/ At the moment the vine is around six feet high and there's no way its going to flower this season. What do I do at the end of the season? Am I missing something obvious here because I always thought that hop were an annual plant that is...

    Fertilizer

I'm new to growing hops. My plant is around six feet tall at the moment and looks healthy. I just have a couple of questions: What should I feed it with? At the end of the season what do I do with it? thanks

    Citric acid

I'm making a Peach & White grape wine from juice. I forgot to add citric acid. Can I add during fermentation or is too late? Thanks

Thanks engineer. I have just found whats left of my last packet which I purchased in the summer. The price on the packet is £4.20 !!!

    Filters

Has the price of 'Crystalbrite' filter pads gone through the roof. The last time I purchased some (a couple of months ago) I'm sure they were less than a fiver a pack. They are now nearly ten quid!!

Is it all worth it ? I need convincing.

I'm old enough to remember my old mans home brew (kits) in the 70's. It was horrible stuff and it definately had that 'home brew twang' to it. Thankfully kits are much better these days. I changed to AG over a year ago and I wasn't disappointed. Gone is the familiar taste of home brew...

    Plum Wine Recipe

There are people on the forum who more qualified than me but...... Finnings are not always necessary and if you think its clearing ok without finnings its not a problem. In a five gallon batch it just speeds up the process so that I can get it into bottles sooner. It depends on how long its...

    Plum Wine Recipe

I rarely brew in DJ's these days, preferring the 5 gallon FB option. I do not rack until at least 4 or 5 days following the addition of finings. Then I will rack into DJ's ready for the final filtering.

    Plum Wine Recipe

Hi Lavo, I left mine alone and fermentation started one full week later. Its happily bubbling away now  Re your adding of campden tablets at the 'same time' as the yeast? Just to clarify Moley said.... "Chop the plums in half, remove the stones and throw the plums into the first...

    Plum Wine Recipe

Hi Moley, I just found your recipe for this wine last week. I have a fermentation problem. It wont start! The only thing I did which was different was that I inadvertently added the yeast to the must before straining it off. It therefore still has a lot of fruit in it, but I didn't think it...

    Ribena Wine

There was a hell of a lot of sugar in this before fermentation. I can't remember what the reading was but it was well over 1.150 I have a feeling that it may have fermented out and that it was actually a very sweet strong wine? Perhaps the more experienced can clarify? Anyway I diluted it to...

    Ribena Wine

I have followed this recipe to the letter. Fermentation started and was going fine but after 4 weeks it has stopped and my hydrometer reading is still well into the 60's. I used a Gervin yeast GV4. Obviously there is still a lot of sugar in there so my plan is to seperate it into two fermenting...

    I'm confused!

So if I do decide to use finings, when would be the best time to do it? Should I add finings leave to clear and then bottle or keg? or Should I add finings and bottle or keg immediately?

    I'm confused!

I've just found out I've been working under a misconception. I am relatively new to brewing but I thought that finings 'killed' yeast cells and brought the fermentation to a stop. Seeing as my aim is to have secondary fermentation after bottling or kegging I haven't been using finings. Today...

    king keg question

Hi Wezzel, Its just dawned on me that tyre valves are normally sealed from the inside with a rubber solution so how do you seal the valves in your keg? :hmm:

    king keg question

I know this thread is a few months old now but I have had problems with the KKTT too. I've been reading a lot of forums and it appears to be quite common. One of things I've read has already been touched upon regarding the use of vaseline. A smear rather than 'loads' is enough but it has to be...
