    Grainfather G30 - safety valve

I had a similar issue and also removed the ball and spring. Haven't put them back in again. I need to close the valve a bit when mashing to reduce the flow.

Lager fermentation, bottle conditioning temperature and yeast choice

Thanks, so the plan will be to await till later in the year when it gets colder, and bulk age for a few weeks in the shed. Will give the 34/70 a go as well.

Lager fermentation, bottle conditioning temperature and yeast choice

Thank you for your reply. I think this sounds good. Might be a challenge to condition cold for that length of time though. I may be better waiting until winter, then conditioning in my shed. If I age in bulk prior to bottling, would there be enough yeast in suspension or should I add some more...

Lager fermentation, bottle conditioning temperature and yeast choice

I'm planning on making a lager and was looking for some advice on yeast and bottling conditioning temperature. I use a brew bucket with cooling coils so can control fermentation temperature. I don't have any way of controlling the temperature when conditioning my bottles though. They'll be...

Milk Chocolate Porter and Cacao Nibs

I'm planning a milk chocolate porter. The batch size will be 13 litres and I have 100g of cacao nibs currently soaking in 250ml of Tia Maria. The plan is to add the nibs to the fermenter once fermentation is done then leave for 7 to 10 days. Would it be advisable to strain them before adding...

    Final Gravity and Temperature Control

Thanks, will wait and leave it at 24C. Once I'm sure it's done, I'll remove the heatbelt and leave the temp to fall to room temp. I don't have any means of cold crashing at the moment. I also use Kveik from time to time at higher temperatures so I assume the same principle would apply with this...

    Final Gravity and Temperature Control

I'm brewing a Belgian Blonde with M41 and it's reached expected FG in 5 days. There's still some airlock activity so I suspect it's still got a wee bit to go before completely finishing out. The temperature was set at 24C throughout using an Inkbird and heatbelt. I'll leave the beer in the...

60 min vs 90 min boils

I boil for 60 minutes but would be interested in trying 30 minutes. What effect does a shorter boil have on original gravity? Is this something that needs to be considered?

    Serving temperature

    Thanks!

    Serving temperature

I was wondering if anyone could shed any light for me. When I first take a bottle from the fridge, my homebrew tastes quite bitter. Then after 10 minutes or so that initial bitterness is gone and the flavour smooths and is more enjoyable. Testing the temperature of an IPA I just opened from...

    Saflager 34/70. Stuck or done.

My hydrometer is also from Wilko. I have some Kveik, can try that and if it doesn't work will dump it. Don't want any bottle bombs. Will make another DME starter with the Kveik and see how it goes.

    Saflager 34/70. Stuck or done.

Good point! Does anyone have any recommendations on a decent hydrometer? Maybe I just need to adjust now I know it's off.
