If you're after a more traditional ale style (not overly hoppy, no tropical or grapefruits etc.) head over to LoveBrewing. They have a terrific range of premium kits. I can heartily recommend their Golden Rocket Strong Ale. It comes with 4.2ltrs of malt (from memory) and is one of the best kits...
Yes, I'm inclined to not beat myself up too much about it. The drudge of homeworking/lockdown/homeschooling kids combined with the British winter was definitely softened by Auntie Mangrove and Uncle Jack. But you know the game's up when your clothes start to get too tight... I'm a cyclist...
Resurrecting this thread to update again. After dabbling over Christmas and almost writing off the whole 7ltr batch, we opened another bottle of our Sept '20 plum wine last weekend and was surprised to find it transformed! These few months of rest have improved it no end. It's lost its...
So after becoming a kit-brewing forum regular last year, I decided a couple of months ago that I'd better step back from my recently rediscovered hobby because I was gaining weight, drinking more than was healthy and starting to obsess about the next brew despite having a garage full already...
I'd give the Old Suffolk Strong a swerve, if I were you. I love dark ales, but this one was overpowered by the dreaded twang. For a great dark ale kit kit, head over to Love Brewing and pick one from their own range - they're consistently excellent. From that patch I can also recommend the...
Anyone ventured back to their plum wine from last year? With the sun shining again today, my thoughts have turned back to September's creation. Wonder if it's any better now than it was then...?
Doubling up means you will always have a plentiful supply of beer! It also means you can give plenty away to friends and neighbours without worrying about running outacheers.
Now a Beerworks Founders Double IPA. This is a great brew, but at ~8% is a beast. Needs chilling right down. This one might pin me to the sofa for a while!!
I don't inhabit or post in the snug much, but this is terrific news - congrats BB. As has been said already, being out of work is bad for the soul. Hope you get a kick out of it, as well as that all important pay cheque.
I'm drinking both the juicy and the pink grapefruit kits at the moment.
Factors that may/may not influence your choice:
The grapefruit is stronger ~6.5% vs juicy @ ~4.8%. You really notice that extra 1.7% too, especially after the second pint.
The juicy has more tropical flavours - passion...
I doubt you'll find a kit that ticks all those boxes, but MJ Juicy IPA can (should?) be drunk early to capture the most of the fruity flavours. It isn't like Ghost Ship, but it is lovely!
Hey there,
My kit brews NEVER reach the stated final gravity. It's always a bit of a disappointment but then I (almost) always enjoy the end result anyway. Not once have I thought 'this tastes a bit weak'. I've done the Golden Rocket in the past couple of months and I can't remember what it...
This really hit a nerve for me. It's an off-the-scale beautiful film on a Terence Malik-style epic scale. For a while I put the fact that I didn't fully 'get it' down to my own stupidity, until I watched it again, carefully, and read up on it online to discover that it wasn't just me...
Well, I haven't tried this, but I know you can re-prime a barrel with a second lot of sugar to increase pressure instead of using Co2, so I don't see why this wouldn't work for bottles. Just make sure the original lot of priming sugar is fermented out to avoid accidentally overpriming the bottles.
Altered Carbon on Prime - I can recommend thoroughly if you like original, inventive sci-fi. Anyone fancy being rebooted in someone elses body after they die? Big budget, super stylish and Bladerunner-esque.
I've just finished my third full run-through of the seven series of the West Wing. As...
