    Wort chiller has turned orange

This could well be one of those "not overly helpful responses", as I don't really know the answer but...given it's copper, I would imagine that the WPP has caused oxidation to occur which is what has caused the change in colour of the copper. You could try cleaning it with some copper cleaner to...

    Show us your dog

We love Erdigg, though we’ve not been able to get there for a while. It’s only about 20 miles from where we live and is one of The National Trust places we’d regularly visit with the pooch and the children.

    Show us your dog

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I thought I'd post, now I stop and think about it, a piece of pretty obvious advice, which I, or I guess more accurately Chester our Cockapoo, learned the hard way yesterday!! We took Chester out for a walk in a relatively local woods on Sunday, which we've...

    Hop spider or not?

Personally, if the Hop Spider had a hinged lid and simply sat 'free' inside the boiler that would be better IMO, but maybe that could cause other issues that I can't think of ATM? Alternatively, the 'hook' that the Hop Spider hangs onto the side with should be extendable, so the Hop Spider...

    Hop spider or not?

Yeah, that's a bit more than I'll be looking to spend for the foreseeable, having spent a fair bit updating my kit already, but good to know that's an option in the future. athumb..

    HoppingMad Brewdays

Yeah ditto, I love Christmas beers because of the spices and I tend to drink them all year round. Thanks re your Hop Spider comments and I did the same on my Kolsch brew on Satursday (brew update to follow), re the recirculating it through the HopSpider for 10 mins to reduce the temp prior to...

    Hop spider or not?

Yeah, I must admit I'm also questioning whether it saves any time on the clean but my concern was more the blocked pump, as I'd read a few 'sub-optimal' reviews on that element. Interesting to hear 59 brews in and you've not had a problem. I think for my next brew (Biere de Garde) I'll try the...

    Hop spider or not?

I’ve got a muslin bag I used to use for my hops in my extract brews; I like the idea of the Hop Spider for bittering and then the bag for aroma so will definitely give that a go for my next brew! 👍

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

Star San 473ml available here (The Home Brew Shop if you want to navigate there yourselves) for £18. I got the “catalogue error”, refreshed the page, went back into the “Sterilising and other cleaning agents” section and then was able to add it to problem and it says there are 92 in stock. 🤞🏻

    Hop spider or not?

I bought a new Mangrove Jacks Hop Spider and used it for the first time last weekend. I was surprised by how far “out” of the wort it was and I was concerned that it might inhibit the flow of wort around the hops. I use it in a Grainfather G30; what’s the general opinion on them, use one or not?

    Grainfather vs Still Spirits T500

    Thanks @Chippy_Tea , I hadn’t considered that. 👍

    Grainfather vs Still Spirits T500

Ok, having been told that the Grainfather Heater wasn't in stock, I decided it didn't make much difference and therefore I'd keep the T500. Having just unboxed it and filled it with water to clean ahead of a brew tomorrow, I have now noticed a fairly irritating significant difference. The...

    Flu vaccine

Yep, I'm assuming it's down to the delivery system of a nasal spray rather than injection and the way your body picks that up and reacts to it, which wouldn't work with the inactive ingredients in the injections. The nasal spray contains, essentially, watered down (I'm sure there's a better...

    Flu vaccine

Then I would suggest you misheard or misunderstood. The UK (which includes Scotland) does not have a live flu vaccination by injection, no ifs, no buts and no exceptions.
  18. HoppingMad

    Flu vaccine

Yep, it is; that's a nasal spray though not an injection, which is what Kelper said he had and what I said was categorically not live. As far as I'm aware, only children have the nasal spray though.

    Flu vaccine

I'm not sure which Pharmacist came to your village hall but I'd go and question their credentials, and I wouldn't use them again. The flu *** isn't a live virus and therefore can not give you flu. The arm ache some people get is generally exasperated by tensing your arm muscle when you're...

    Flu vaccine

Yeah, uptake is ever so slightly higher this year than most. We had ours via Boots, but they limited / stopped under 65 bookings a couple of weeks later. I’ve always managed to get it at Tesco or Asda on other years when other places have struggled, but not all Asda’s have a pharmacy...
