No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

Yes you’ll be able to remove the strainer. The hole for the tap was very snug but I didn’t need to enlarge it with a drill etc.

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

Yeah it’s been fine. You use the threaded collar that you screw the hop strainer into to retain the tap. Seems to work alright - had no leaks so far. Just grip it with a pair of pliers to tighten it.

    PH tester

I’ve bought a cheap one along the lines of this from Amazon and it’s crap: Digital pH and TDS Meter Combo, 0.05ph High Accuracy pH Tester +/- 2% Readout Accuracy TDS Tester, Water Quality Tester for Household Drinking Water, Pool, Hydroponics, Aquarium Water...

I’m guessing you would add the flavourings in secondary?

    Seven Brothers Honeycomb Recipes?

I never thought of just dumping a cake flavouring in it. That’s got me thinking - I could do a really chocolatey stout and make it like a whole crunchy rather than just the middle bit :)

    Seven Brothers Honeycomb Recipes?

Hi all I had a few pint of this in the pub yesterday and it was bloody lovely: https://www.sevenbro7hers.com/product/honeycomb-pale-ale/ Takes a bit like the middle bit of a crunchy chocolate bar. Does anyone have any recipes that would produce something similar? ta

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I’ve never had a problem but I mash and sparge in a cool box and then just transfer over over the the kettle at the end, so there’s not much crud in there. if I don’t skim the head as it approaches temp it always boils over though.

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I just stick it on 101 for the hour. I bring it up to temp with the lid on. Skim the head that forms on the brew at about 97/98 degrees as that helps stop a boil over. Soon as it starts rolling I partially uncover the lid again to prevent boil over. I’ve also Stick a towel on the floor to...

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

Probably safety and so you just don’t damage your worktop - can’t imagine a laminate top liking 100 oC of head on it for an hour - I use mine on the floor for that reason alone. Kettle bottom get toasty when your using it.

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I think you’d be fine with that. It doesn’t stick out a massive amount just a couple of cm but it’s enough to stop it sitting flat when the tap points straight down. You can always rotate the tap so it’s not pointing straight down however. two other things 1/ you’ll will need to purchase a...

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I'd actually bought the hop filter from Malt Miller on my previous order : Brewing Equipment - Bazooka Hop filter 12" - The Malt Miller | The Malt Miller. I originally bought this tap from there too to do the tap mod, but the bend on the tap was a bit too big so the hose barb lifts the bottom...

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I have literally just fitted a hop strainer to mine today. I bought this off eBay for 12 quid 1/2'' Stainless Steel Ball Valve Weldless Homebrew Compact Wine Beer Kettle Pot 6038673282861 | eBay plus a cheap hop strainer with a 1/2” fitting and it’s gone on dead easy. I tried the ikea splash...

Hi all I'm wondering how many kegs people have comapred to the number of fermentors. I've currently got a 7 Gallon and a 3 Galllon fermentor, plus 3 x 9.5L kegs & im trying to get to an optimal point if having beer in the fridge being drunk, beer conditioning thats out of the the fermenter...

Kegging setup for a small fridge.

I thought I'd add an update on this in case anyone stumbles on it in future. In general - the idea worked - however it certainly isn't an optimal setup. One thing I'd never considered with the beer fridge was the temperature it actually dropped to. It was fine having a few cans and bottles in...

    Thermometer reccomendations

I've gone for a Thermopen Classic - 36 quid is the cheapest ive ever seen them so couldnt turn it down. Happy days - just need an empty fermenter now to test it.

    Thermometer reccomendations

I'm trying to decide between the inkbird listed above @25.99 and the thermopen classic which is on offer at amazon delivered @ 39.99 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/SuperFast-Thermapen-Professional-Thermometer-Sherbert/dp/B076DGSTQB) & i hoped this thread would solve my problem :) I've read the...
