How much sugar in a bottle, for priming?

Thanks everyone! I'll experiment a bit and subdivide my bottles in to a few groups with slightly different amounts and see what happens. My last (first) batch was a lager brew in 660 ml bottles - the calculator at GerritT mentioned above does suggest higher amounts for lager so maybe that was...

How much sugar in a bottle, for priming?

Hi there, I've just made my first kit with a half teaspoon of sugar in 660ml bottles - not too bad but it came out a bit flat. I've looked at the literature but it all says the same, about half a spoon. My question is - is this really enough, or can I go to about 3/4 of a teaspoon (so...

King Keg - Leak through pressure valve even though it's new - the valve is new, that is

Hi All - I may have found the problem. I eased off the inlet 'no return' valve rubber and found that the hole drilled crossways through the valve block hadn't been finished properly - where the drill came out a sharp pointed edge (it might be called 'flashing' )had been left which I'm guessing...

King Keg - Leak through pressure valve even though it's new - the valve is new, that is

Maybe a straightened out paper clip (coz it's bendy) put inside the rubber might work, as you could keep the sharp ends clear of the valve rubber seating and avoid scratching it. by slowly working it around in circles it might get the valve rubber on..?

Can anyone recommend a decent lager kit?

Thanks again to everyone's suggestions - lot's for me to try here. In response to Kelper's question above, my normal tipple in the pub is what's available - which is usually Stella or Kronenbourg - though having said that it's feeling like quite some time since I went to a pub. I used to be a...

King Keg - Leak through pressure valve even though it's new - the valve is new, that is

Many thanks all for your replies. Given Kelper's diagram above I do have part 1, the piercing pin insert, as it's a new valve, and the gas does appear to be leaking through the hole in part 1 - which does suggest the valve rubber is not working properly. I'll replace both valve rubbers and...

King Keg - Leak through pressure valve even though it's new - the valve is new, that is

Hello, I've inherited a King Keg with the high tap from a retired brewer and am checking it before risking a brew but I've found a problem. It came with two caps, one of which had the sparklets type valve. When I tested this cap by filling the keg with water and putting it on it's side then...

Can anyone recommend a decent lager kit?

Hello TerryM, I thought I'd replied but can't see anything, so just trying again - thanks very much for the advice above. I'll see what I can do by splitting kits. I've just 'come in ' to 50 or so pint beer bottles which makes the idea of doing a big brew or storing LME for a week or two and...

Can anyone recommend a decent lager kit?

Hello, for the first time in many decades I'm trying my hand at home brewing again - the last time was in the mid 70s when I was a teenager. I'd like to try a lager kit and was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent one: I'd like to start with 2 gallon brews so ideally I'd like a kit for...
