    Primary fermentation time

Thank you 😊 I am away for around 2 weeks afterwards so think ideally would need to keg it before I go. It is only 8 hrs off the 10 days specified in the recipe and it is warm so I am hopeful...Will come back to hydrometer- just have not managed to read correctly yet!

    Primary fermentation time

Grateful for help. Started Festival Ale Kit (Golden Stag) this eve, thinking I could just about squeeze in primary fermentation before I keg in 10 days time - am away for a while after this. Did not factor in cooling down period needed before adding in yeast. It's now midnight and the mixture...

    Keg pressure problem! Help please!

Grateful for help please!! I have been making the Festival 'Golden Stag' summer ale fine in my old keg (which had no pressure valve). I have used a new keg with a pressure valve on top this time (attached). Secondary fermentation 10 days after initial fermentation fermentation- as per normal...

How to use hydrometer correctly to establish alcohol content

Thank you - 2.2% seems very low! Will it change at all during secondary? Should I be concerned? Tasted OK when I tested it last night. .

How to use hydrometer correctly to establish alcohol content

Hi there - just trying, for the first time, to use a hydrometer to measure alcohol content on Festival Summer Ale homebrew kit. Hydrometer reading before yeast I think was 1.3 (2 pix above with garden in background) and measured again just before kegging and before adding sugar (2 pix with...

    Priming Sugar /Dextrose Sugar confusion

Apologies for basic question but stupidly put in priming sugar into primary fermentation from Festival Golden Stag Summer Ale kit. Realised only afterwards that this was fir secondary fermentation and this kit did not need sugar at this stage. Is this remediable? And do I just add the same...

    2ndary fermentation Q - prob v basic

Thanks! Would putting it into the same keg likely ruin the beer already there? And would the beer develop OK in the water container, given that it is not pressurised? Sorry for extra questions and grateful for help!

    2ndary fermentation Q - prob v basic

Grateful for quick help! My siphon broke 30 pints into 36 pint transfer. V keen to get last 6 pints our but new siphon arrives tomorrow. Beer was put into keg on Thursday, having had 5 days hop pellets. Can I undo top of keg and siphon in the remaining 6 pints without causing any damage? Sorry...

    Corny keg

Hi there - sorry to latch onto this thread but you sound like you know what you are talking about... Two days ago my siphon filter broke 30 pints into a 36 pint 2dary fermentation transfer into keg. I have bought another siphon and plan to carry on the process for the last 6 pints worth left...

    Too much sugar!

Sorry if this is a basic Q - but in making a homebrew kit (Festival - Father Hook's) recently, I discovered in error that if I put 100g of sugar in at start it really improved flavour. So was going to do this again but for some idiotic reason put 500g in by mistake. It is fermenting fine I...

Bottling from keg - help please!!

Thank you! To reduce the pressure do I simply turn the cog at the top of the keg? Do I need to turn it all the way? And if I do then can I re-pressurise the barrel afterwards for any beer left inside? I do not necessarily want to bottle all at the same time....thank you!

Bottling from keg - help please!!

I am very keen to bottle some of my (delicious tasting) Father Hook's Best Bitter. What is the simplest and cheapest way I can transfer the beer from the pressure barrel to glass bottles (to be capped)? Is there a way to maintain pressure in the bottle without loads of fancy equipment? I have...

    Geordie Winter Warmer

Maybe answered my own q but I can use half and half I think? But that leaves me with loads of leftover brewing enhancer? Does it keep??

    Geordie Winter Warmer

To add a further question , does anyone know whether I can use beer enhancer AND golden syrup? Or half half?? Not sure and grateful for help! Thank you TerryM for responding so quickly last time!

I have this kit too and am about to start brewing. Do you happen to know whether you can use golden syrup instead of sugar? I had heard of people adding it but not sure if it was instead of sugar or on top of? Also wondered about adding in hops? Any thoughts gratefully received! Thank you...Will
