    Whats gone wrong?

Ok, I just gave it a stir and there wasnt the inch or two of sediment on the bottom. Infact, there was hardly anything on the bottom so ive added a sachet of yeast and we will see where it goes from here.. PS, i know that the fermentor is air-tight given that it has bubbled through the air lock...

    Whats gone wrong?

Right, Ill take another gravity reading at 20 degrees or adjust for temperature to make sure that the sugar has gone. And then get it bottled!! Thanks for the help folks

    Whats gone wrong?

Cheers for that Hopping_Mad. The instructions recommend 21-27 so i thought that at only 28, i would have gotten away with it.. Given my gravity reading do you think that all the sugar has been fermented away? I really was only bubbling through the air lock for a few hours. If not, is there...

    Whats gone wrong?

Is there any way of knowing if there is any sugar left?? I was thinking about just adding another sachet of yeast and seeing if it starts bubbling through the air lock again.

    Whats gone wrong?

Hi folks, This is an appeal for help from your shared knowledge and wisdom. I am about a week into a homebrew of Coopers IPA. In the mix are 500 grams of light dry malt alongside 300 of dextrose as per the instructions on the tin.. I have a cold room so have used a heating belt to raise the...

Oh dear ive gone and done it now!!

"so if I'm reading this right (and feel free to correct me if I'm not), the hydrometer snapped, and then you fished out the broken parts, and the bottom bit, with perhaps lead shot, mercury, whatever, was still intact - the break was further up, yes?" Yes this is precisely what happened. It was...

Oh dear ive gone and done it now!!

The 'sadoe' comment was aimed at the people who made the 'gotta be a troll' comments... Really???? I'm 25 years old and just looking for a proper thought out explanation, not a series of keyboard snobs tutting at me atop their ivory tower for ignoring there advice. "Rack off 4 gallons from the...

Oh dear ive gone and done it now!!

Jesus theres a lot of sadoes on here! "Thing I'm thinking, is that they had possibly poured a kit in to the bottom of FV, and added a little warm water. At this point, they tried stirring with hydrometer. At this point, is where it broke..." - correct I appreciate everyones concern for my...

Oh dear ive gone and done it now!!

Thanks for the advice everyone. But... I think im going to ignore it. my plan is to filter the beer through muslin prior to bottling. I'm sure that will get out any pesky broken glass. Can anyone think of a reason why this is not a good idea?

Oh dear ive gone and done it now!!

ok ive re-checked my hydrometer. Its stuffed with lead shot under a dark red covering. I was thinking of just siving my brew before bottleing or passing it through some kind of filter to get round the broken glass provlem. Thoughts?

Oh dear ive gone and done it now!!

Hello everyone can i have some help please. So i was preparing my latest brew and being a daft wee laddie, decided to stir the wort stuck to the bottom of my fermentor with my hydrometer which subsequently snapped. I reached in and pulled it out leaving the black substance relatively untouched...

    Is it ready yet?

Cheers for all that Calum. I think ill experiment by producing a range of beers from 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per 500 mill. Ill make sure to get the high sugar content beer in the plastic bottles. Just one final thing. The feller in my local homebrew shop strongly advised against bottling my beet...

Cheers Calum. So you dont think the low temperature is a problem? Any advice on the amount of sugar per 500 milliliters of brew?

    Is it ready yet?

Hello good people of thehomebrewforum. Ive been had 23 liters of EPA brewing away in my fermentor for two weeks now. I tested it this morning with the hydrometer which claims its done. My only issue is that, unlike my brothers previous batch (albeit from a different kit), it hasn't been...

    Potencial infection?

Nice nice. Piece of mind at last. Any thoughts on 'to stir/or not to stir' dilemma? The gent in the brew shop recommended a daily does of elbow grease (stiring) whist my brother told me not to bother.

    Potencial infection?

Hi everyone, I've just started on my very first batch of home brew (pale ale). I followed the instructions on the packet and elsewhere to a T so hopefully wont have too much trouble. Ive got my fermenter ticking over at a stead 20/22c. I have been unscrewing the lid and airlock every day to...
