    Tiny lager bottling question...

That was my lager that hadn't fizzed up. I left for two weeks in primary, racked to secondary for one week, batched primed with 160g of white sugar for 20lts, stored it warm for one week and then cold for one week. I've now moved it back into the warm to see if I can get it going again. When...

    Any funny disaster stories...?

Hi guys... I was just reading another thread and saw a reference to 'bottle bombs' that got me thinking. Has anyone had any brewing disasters (of any kind, not just exploding bottles) that you are now able to look back on and laugh about?

    Under primed (no fizz) lager

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I have to say, this may well be the best forum I have ever used for good, knowledgeable and helpful thread posts. There is absolutely no sarcasm, bitching or uninvited commentary (apart from the occasional light hearted kind). Anyway.... the beer... There...

    Under primed (no fizz) lager

Hi all I've just tried the first of a batch of lager. Unfortunately I think I've under primed it. Without digging out my notebook I couldn't tell you how much sugar I used but suffice to say, there's not a lot of fizz (and I will be reading more sources regarding batch priming before launching...

    Re-Using Shop Bought Beer Bottles

I've not used it yet but this looks a good site for making labels... http://labeley.com/ So far all I've done is number each cap with a permanent marker and keep a note of what each batch is (kit type, date, OG, FG, etc). It doesn't look as good as labels if you're gifting bottles or have...

Is it really going to be that strong....???

Shearclass... A little less. I did 22 litres as I was using bottled water and that was all I had. I figured roughly 4.5% wouldn't make much difference.

Is it really going to be that strong....???

I adjusted for temp when it took the OG. It's now been in the FV for 11 days. I just tested it again and its sitting at about 1014/5 which is more or less where it was on Monday (I forgot to test it Tue/Wed). I'll test it again tomorrow and Saturday but will probably just rack it off to...

Is it really going to be that strong....???

I was wondering if I'd measured the OG wrong so the fact your's is so similar means I'm not so worried. I was going by the formula in the Coopers kit which adds 0.5% for the priming sugars to get to 6.1% so again, I must be right. This was a lager for the Mrs as she's not a big fan of ale...

Is it really going to be that strong....???

Currently have Cooper's Euro Lager in the FV. Made it with 500g of Cooper's Light Malt and 500g of Cooper's Brew Enhancer #1. The OG was 1052 (does this sound right or a bit high?). I've worked out based on a target FG of 1010 (using the formula in the little booklet that came in the kit)...

Cooper's Euro Lager - Couple of Questions

Thanks for the advice chaps. I had two main reasons for racking, first, to clear the lager and second, for the practice and experience of doing it. I'm fairly new to homebrewing so I'm just 'learning through doing' and experimenting. I kind of have the attitude that I'll do everything properly...

Cooper's Euro Lager - Couple of Questions

Hi All I'm currently having a go at a Cooper's European Lager. It's been in the FV for about 4 days in a cupboard where the temperature is a stable 19 degrees. I don't have anywhere else cooler and as stable so my first question is, is this an okay temperature? Second question is, how long...

    Brown Ale kit recommendations please....

Hi all. I've bottled my John Bull IPA (Although it doesn't really smell or taste at this early stage like an IPA but it looks like it will be nice all the same). It seems a shame to not be using the fermentation bin so I thought I'd try a Brown Ale. Certain older family members used to be...

    Seven Days in the bucket.....

You're right... it was 1.016. I've looked at the scale more closely. Today's reading was 1.014 so I'd say it needs leaving a while longer. Should anyone have any specific experience or advice, the kit I am using is John Bull's IPA with Munton's Beer kit enhancer. I boiled it in 4 litres and...

    Seven Days in the bucket.....

So its seven days since I boiled up my kit, poured it into the bucket, shook my little sachet and tucked it all up neatly in the airing cupboard. This afternoon I drew a small amount off via the bucket spigot to see what I had. It still smelt very 'yeasty' which is probably good but it looked...

    Hello from Cork

Hi All I'm new to the site and new to brewing. Although I'm living in Cork, Ireland for the last few years, I'm originally from Cambridge and my wife is from Yorkshire. I took delivery of some equipment yesterday from on online supplier here in Ireland (there seems to be very few shops you...
