    Specific Gravity Readings

Is it generally considered that the value of sg is uniform throughout the entire volume of the fermenting volume? I have 46l of German Pilsner fermenting in a Brewmaster and i think the tilt is caught up in the central cooling coils. I can bleed a small amount off from the nipple on the side...

    Tilt/Grainfather temperature anomalies!

Peebee, I take what you say, but the values given by the GF30 are now very erratic and some 8c different to two tilts with the same value in the brew. I have historically always used the GF to control temp. It is because of the anomalies that i went to tilt control on temp. On reflection...

    Tilt/Grainfather temperature anomalies!

Interestingly the GF fermenter controller allows significant temperature calibration changes almost as though they anticipate the problem.

    Tilt/Grainfather temperature anomalies!

Just thrown a second tilt in and it shows a 3rd reading, 1c lower than the other tilt (an even bigger difference). I can live with the 1c difference in the tilts - probably calibration changes. I am starting to believe the tilts but surely the GF30 should be more accurate than that. I have...

    Tilt/Grainfather temperature anomalies!

Just getting back in to brewing after some time away. A few days ago, I put a Pilsner into the GF fermenter and dropped in a tilt, just as I have done many times over the past few years. I am using a Gcast to send readings to the GF app to monitor and control the brew. This time I am noticing...

    The Coronavirus thread.

Why do we listen to Tony Hancock. He thought he was going to loose a whole armful when he gave blood!!!

    Fermentasaurus.

Last 10 brews been done in an FS. Wouldn't go back to a bucket. Use a "tasty profile" under pressure (10 psi at 10c) for lagers - raising slowly to 14c for d rest. transfer under pressure to corny. My brews have been much better and more consistent since using an FS. You will certainly...

    Lager that's not lagered

Looks interesting. I have printed it off and will read quietly later. I notice when dipping into his paper, he brews at 20psi. I try to never go above 10psi as i tend to get the maximum return at this pressure. I normally find by the end of the week the ferment is virtually complete and i...

    Lager that's not lagered

I dont apply any external pressure other than the co2 produced by fermentation - this tends to mean that there is little or no pressure on the yeast until after its intial growth phase.

    Lager that's not lagered

I used to lager - but not any more. Ferment at lager temps at 10psi until over 50% attenuation then raise temp 3 or 4c until finished fermenting (1 week), cold crash 2 days, and keg. Mash to glass about 3 weeks. Clear and clean tasting.

    Sonoff Brewpiless with pressure transducer.

That looks interesting, i am away for a few days but will investigate when i get back.

    Sonoff Brewpiless with pressure transducer.

I use brewpi with a tilt and Brewfather, plus a fermentasaurus under pressure, and would love to build a controller with Brewpiless, sonoff and pressure transducers. I built an ispindel that brewed 15 brews and died after a leak but now need to up my game in terms of control. I can find a lot...

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

I have an ispindel i built 12 months ago. Sometimes it is difficult to arouse it from sleep. I have read that replacing the 470 ohm resistor with a BAT43 diode can alleviate this problem. I used the Mechatronics kit with a version 2.1 board but cannot see anything on the internet about the...

    Steaming Rancor

No not brewed it yet. I have some Voss No 1 in the fridge as i have just made David Heath's Vienna with it - nice brew. Like you, i felt that raising by one degree for a diacetyl rest seemed a bit arbitrary. However 18c is the max recommended temp for this strain. I do not think there will...

    Steaming Rancor

I have just been inputting the above recipe from David Carpenter's book "Lager" into Brewfather so i can brew it next week. It uses WLP 810 which tolerates higher temps than a lot of lager yeasts. For the ferment he states pitch at 16 and allow to free rise to 17 and hold for 7 days. He then...

Fermentasaurus V2 - Fermzilla video preview

Is it correct that the ones from Brewkegtap at £110 do not include the pressurisation bits.

    Fermentasaurus.

Mine came yesterday, and i am wondering the same thing. I see Angel Homebrew have the following. https://www.angelhomebrew.co.uk/en/brew-devil/364-brew-devil-to-fermentasaurus-filling-hose.html Is it overkill when you can just squirt it straight in? With it, I suppose you could fill the FS...

    Fermentasaurus.

It is a home made device similar to a tilt that is wifi based rather than blue tooth.
