Can I half fill a keg (corny)

Yes you can half fill a keg, but you need to liquid purge it first: Fill it with water (or preferably sanitiser), then push all the water out with CO2. Your keg is now 99.9% fully of CO2.

    Fibre to the property

Pro will go to 1000Mbps. The 6 will only do 500Mbps. For anyone not involved in backing up/moving around media 500Mbps is plenty fast enough.

The eero 6 system from Amazon is heavily discounted at the moment and seems to be well loved by many: https://amzn.eu/d/4mC3c7Z For anything better you’d be paying £250+ for two units, and that is £140 for three.

    WW3

You think that the Russian military system makes rational decisions? My impression in this war has repeatedly been that Putin gives an order and that order cascades down to whoever can fulfil it without any context or strategy planning, meaning they'll use whatever means necessary to fulfil...

    House heating; most efficient way.

Another option is to add some smart radiator valves, so that you can program a heating schedule for each room, so you're only heating the rooms you're actually using. They're really quite cheap now (£27 per valve, plus you need a similar price gateway for the house...

    House heating; most efficient way.

Turn it off when you don't need it, it'll be cheaper. I don't know who came up with the idea that it's cheaper to leave your heating on low during the day, but it's rubbish unless you're on some weird tariff that gives you cheaper energy units during the day than in the evening. Not impossible...

    Fibre to the property

I'm on a 300Mbps connection, and have a WiFi 6 (802.11ax) mesh network. Just did a speed test on my phone via Wifi and I get... 300Mbps. 😁

    Fibre to the property

If you go to full fibre then you can currently get a 500Mb connection for £43 a month from Sky, or a 300Mb for £40.

    Fibre to the property

If you want to be a popular Dad then run an Ethernet cable or use power line plugs to get from the router to his gaming machine. It’ll keep his network latency (ping) low and stable.

    Fibre to the property

Sky boxes only use the older, slower 2.4Ghz WiFi. If you have multiroom then the boxes use 5Ghz to talk to each other, but that’s it.

Buying advice on Grainfather chiller and fermenter

No, but ultimately the power use will come down to heat gain in the system. The chillers have a fairly small reservoir of glycol to keep just below zero. When your fermenter goes above a set temp it turns a pump on. As a result I don’t think there will be a big power difference between the GC4...

    Grain Efficiency

Is there any practical difference between rice hulls and oat husks? I also noticed a while ago that the prices of them spiked hugely - when I made an order in August oat husks were £8.80/kg, whereas now they're £2.50/kg?

Buying advice on Grainfather chiller and fermenter

I have the GC2, paired with the Grainfather Conical. The GC2 is a great little unit, although I did have a fault with the glycol level sensor after a few months of ownership. They sent me a new sensor to self replace it which was simple enough. If you have a cooling coil in the fermenter I'd...

I'm a dummy, link fixed. Thanks for the catch @Sadfield.

    Grain Efficiency

First of all I'd say not to fuss too much about efficiency. I had terrible efficiency for the longest time. If it's a problem just adjust your base malt up to compensate. Two things fixed it - first of all was sparging more and slower. I went back to 2.5 litres/kg grain of strike water so there...

In an American style stout 20% mix of roast barley, chocolate malt and dark crystal works really well along with a high hop rate. Here's a recipe that has won a couple of medals, including 3rd best of show at Black Friday 2021: https://londonamateurbrewers.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Hard_Top Mash...

    Electric cars.

Does anyone with an EV get any use out of a three pin ‘granny’ charging cable? My car came with one but it’s only 5 metres long. So even with a socket a couple of metres from the front door I basically need to park the car in my porch to make any use of it. Tempted to just take it out of the...

    Electric cars.

Doh! I’m getting an Easee installed in the next week after reading a different survey of home chargers (https://www.whatcar.com/news/best-home-ev-chargers/n25830) and discussion with a trusted sparky who’s doing the install. Considered the Hypervolt, but the glowing lightning bolt on the front...

    Heriot-Watt Brewing and Distilling course

But it's no longer listed on their current products page. I'm pretty sure it once was listed on there.
