Translating hops into flavour vs bitterness

Guys, Thanks so much. Really helpful to get collective replies that point to the same thing. Think I’ve probably thought it’s technique that adds to the flavour. And so I’ve compensated with more hops which only exacerbates the problem. I wonder if I can somewhat save...

Translating hops into flavour vs bitterness

Good to know I'm not the only one! I've used the recipe builders etc but still no luck. Most frustrating thing is that it smells incredible and I think I've cracked it everytime but that smell doesn't translate nearly enough into flavour, instead the bitterness overpowers it almost completely.

Translating hops into flavour vs bitterness

Hi again all, I'm midway way through my 5th all-grain batch (currently part way through primary fermentation), trying to perfect a punchy, citrusy american pale ale. Before this finishes and I then begin the dry hop I have a question about making my hops add flavour and aroma rather than...

    All grain boil

Bugger! Thanks guys perhaps that’s one of the reasons for my weird after taste I sometimes have. Lesson learned. Hopefully it won’t have too much impact.

    All grain boil

Hi guys, on my 5th batch now and it suddenly dawned on me when discussing boil time. Do I start the clock when I hit 212F. In other words my boils tend to take up to 30 mins to reach 212 but if always started the clock from 160ish so really only have 30 mins of true boiling. Is this a bad...

    Yeast activation mistake

Hi there I bought some liquid yeast about 4 weeks ago and forgot to put it in the fridge. I've just taken it out of a dark cupboard and found the pack has activated itself. It's fully expanded. Will it be any good to use? I couldn't say how long it's been like that!

    Dry hopping

thanks all. this is great. i think i will rack to a secondary vessel as it seems to be the consensus that it helps clear the beer. how do you know when to do this process? guides say 7 days - you guys say two weeks? what is the benefit of waiting longer? seems like it will be fine to use loose...

    Dry hopping

Thanks all really helpful. Some good, common sense solutions there. Secondary fermentation: I have a couple of follow on questions - there seems to be a mixture of people who prefer secondary fermentation and some don't? Why is this? Secondly, I had read that secondary fermentation is...

    Dry hopping

Hi there First post and just undergoing my first all grain batch. Gone pretty well so far and is now been fermenting for 6 days with an og of around 1.042. I'm getting ready for the next stage and want to create a very hoppy beer. I have read a lot about dry hopping and want to get...
