    Pump for DIY keg washer

I'm planning to build a keg washer as my set up at home means it is very time consuming and labour intensive to wash kegs. I always put it off because it makes such a mess and takes ages. Having toyed with the idea of getting the SS Brewtech one which looks amazing but costs ££££, I've decided...

    Ridiculous beer descriptions

Yes, black IPA is definitely an oxymoron but at least you can point to the fact it is still a lot like an IPA. I can't see how an imperial barrel aged beer is anything like a mild.

    Ridiculous beer descriptions

I was just listening to the excellent Basic Brewing podcast and they were interviewing a commercial brewer who was serving a "barrel aged, imperial raspberry mild". I cannot think of anything that sounds less like a mild. I think almost by definition it can't be a mild. I know the beer world...

Turning my brew fridge into a glycol chiller

Haven't done it yet so let me know how it goes if you do. I still think that with a large enough reservoir in the fridge it could be fairly efficient but my grasp of thermo dynamics is rudimentary so I could be wrong.

    Price Hikes

I certainly hope my comments earlier weren't interpted as an accusation of profiteering. I was simply pointing out that there are clear price differences between the various online retailers. That's entirely understandable, as is the likelihood that customers will shop around for the best deal...

    Price Hikes

Possibly, but I don't brew as often as I'd like at the moment and I'd be limited to one or two types of hops where as I can pick and chose the hops to suite what I'm brewing this way. Also, I tend to use cheeper hops like Columbus, Cascade, Comet in the whirlpool and then dry hop with premium...

    Price Hikes

I swapped back to the homebrew company for my last order. They were cheaper even before the 10% flash sale that I was lucky enough to happen upon. Used Geterbrewed mostly before that and MM occasionally but they were always more expensive. I buy base malt in 25kg sacks which lasts a good...

    2 Roller Malt Mill

I really rate my 2 roller mill. I built a new circular base for it as the one it came with didn't fit over a bucket very securely. I like being able to adjust the crush down to almost flour for my BIAB set up. I also like being able to store uncrushed grain which I believe keeps better. I just...

Snub nose appollo dry hopping. Best practice?

I've not come across this idea before but I wonder if it's the reason I've never had an issue with astringentcy from long dry hops. I have been treating my water from almost my first all grain brew and on many occasions I've left the beer on the dry hops for longer than planned. 2 weeks quite a...

LALBREW NEW ENGLAND v VERDANT IPA

I've used both yeasts and prefer Verdant but the New England one makes a decent NEIPA. I've found the New England yeast finishes at a higher FG. My current batch of hazy session IPA is made using the NE yeast started at 1.044 and finished at 1.013 so only 70% attenuation. That was with 1 packet...

Under pitching with Lallemand East Coast Ale yeast

It seems to have turned out OK with just the one packet of yeast. It's gone down to 1.013 which is a bit higher than the 1.011 I was aiming for and equates to 70% attenuation compared to the guide figure of 75%. Still I'm reasonably happy with the result which tasted pretty balanced due to 200g...

10% Sale at THBC for "a few hours"

Yes, I used the UK site but I thought they were still based in Ireland. Glad it shouldn't be a problem.

10% Sale at THBC for "a few hours"

I put in an order this morning but realised I haven't ordered from them in a few years. I know they are based in Ireland so will I need to pay VAT and import duty on the order? It was nearly £200 so that will sting if so.

Under pitching with Lallemand East Coast Ale yeast

I brewed a 31L batch of session IPA last night, OG=1.044, mashed at 66°C. Usually when I brew 30+ litres I pitch two packets of dried yeast and that was my plan this time. Unfortunately, when I went to my fridge I found only one pack of Lallemand East Coast Ale yeast which was slightly past it's...

Turning my brew fridge into a glycol chiller

I currently control the fridge using an inkbird. If I want to cold crash hard I set it to -0.5°C. The fridge cooling cycle switches off at about 1°C.

Turning my brew fridge into a glycol chiller

A new glycol chiller is way outside my budget. It looks like Maxi chillers are about £400+ so I would much prefer to use the existing equipment I have. When you say the efficiency of these solutions is very low, do you mean their ability to cool the fermenting beer or the efficiency of...

Turning my brew fridge into a glycol chiller

I am considering updating my fermentation equipment and I would really like to get a 60L Fermzilla All-Rounder. I mainly brew hoppy pale ales so I would like to be able to do closed transfers to keg. I am not particularly interested in pressure fermenting for the beer styles I mostly brew but...

    Ridiculous endings.

Writing this post has just given me the name for this beer. I was going to call it Hoffman's Bicycle but now i'm going to have to call it ridiculous endings because that's how my brewday ended. I was making a session IPA and despite being a bit rusty, having not brewed much recently, most of...

Low attenuation with Lallemand New England

I really like the Verdant yeast I've used it a few times but thought I'd give this one a go. The beer didn't taste that hoppy coming out of the fermentor following a 150g dry hop. My main keg will have another 150g of ekuanot/wiema/Vic secret in so I'm hoping that makes a big difference...

Low attenuation with Lallemand New England

I've just kegged a rye session IPA that I brewed using Lallemand New England yeast (the one that's been around for a few years, not the Verdant yeast), which I think is meant to have come from the Conan, Heady Topper strain. I've not used it before but the average attention is meant to be 75%...
