    Christmas Ale

Anything and everything. Bitters, Pale Ales, Dark Beers... you name it. Not a massive fan of lagers though.

New Year's Eve - Sparkling Perry / Cider

As the darker nights and foggy mornings remind us that Winter isn't so far away, I've started thinking about our NYE party. I thought I'd break away from the tradition of sparkling wine and Champagne and treat my guests to some homemade Perry or Cider. I'm looking for something with a nice...

    Christmas Ale

Family and friends are already starting to mention that dreaded 'C' word. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't even consider talking about it until December, but I've come to realise that when making your own beer, a certain degree of forward planning is needed to make sure that the drink can...

    Removing the sediment

The SedEx look like a good product, although I want to avoid any more expense at this point, so will probably try cold crashing as suggested above and then maybe move onto the SedEx later. Thanks for the advice everyone!

    Craft Beer V Real Ale

I love the concept of BrewDog in that its bringing different beers to the masses and their pub in Birmingham where I've been a couple of times which is a really comfortable and quirky place. But I have to say its seriously overpriced!

Designing / Selling your own brew

Fair point, and at this early stage of thought that hadn't even crossed my mind. A few bottles to friends seems the easier route!

    Plastic Crates

Thank you! I think they'd be perfect... I'd struggled to find anything like that with the right height for bottles with swing top but think that should do it! I'll crack out my tape measure!

    Craft Beer V Real Ale

That's one you quickly knocked up?! Impressed! Some 'turbo yeast' and a distinctive ale... that's a saleable product right there!

Designing / Selling your own brew

So my new-found love for brewing beer & wine has got me thinking, mainly due to the sheer volumes I've been making... I could try to sell a few bottles of this and share the joys of locally produced beer / cider / wine. I'm not thinking anything on a grand scale... just selling a few bottles in...

    Removing the sediment

As I've tried to refine my pouring technique to avoid a glass of cloudy beer or cider from the sediment at the bottom, its got me wondering...what is the best way to get rid of the unwanted in the bottom of the bottle? I immediately thought of transferring to another bottle and then another to...

Sparkling wine - What's the difference?

Thanks for the description... I now understand why you've not done it for 20 years... Possibly one of those activities you do and then realise its far too much effort to regularly repeat just for the bubbles. I may try it one day though and will bank your info for then! Thanks again

    Craft Beer V Real Ale

Thanks for the info... it makes a little more sense now. I love the 'Unicorn Fuel', implies that real ale is in fact 'real', craft beer could just be legend or a figment of your imagination... Entirely possible when you've just tucked into a crate of newly cleared ale!

    Plastic Crates

Thanks for the info... I've checked eBay, but it seems with the current popularity of HomeBrew people are charging a premium for used crates. The plywood idea is a fantastic idea! I hadn't thought of that but I think its a goer! Thanks again

    Craft Beer V Real Ale

I have noticed the term 'Craft Beer' being banded around a lot recently, at special promotions in pubs and even Craft Beer establishments opening not far from where I live. So what is the difference between Craft Beer and Real Ale? Is it a different description coined by savvy sales people and...

Sparkling wine - What's the difference?

Hello fellow brewers! I'm just in the process of making my first 4.5litre sample batch of wine and as I watched it bubbling away it made me think... how could I make the normal wine into a sparkling wine?! Could I use a normal wine kit and change part of the process to make it sparkling? I...

    Plastic Crates

Hi I'm relatively new to brewing but have already encountered the problem of a cardboard bottle box giving way on me and losing precious beer to the floor! Does anyone know a reasonably priced supplier of stackable plastic crates, much like the old 'pop man' used to deliver the bottles...

    Wine SG hydrometer reading

Hi I'm 3 days into brewing my first batch of wine. It's a sample kit to make 4.5 litres of Elderflower wine. The recipe advised to only use 1.8litres of water to start with, but all of the 450g sugar. Because of this the SG hydrometer reading was off the scale, because the remainder of the...

    New brewer ahoy!

Hi everyone! I've just signed up with HomeBrewForum.co.uk so thought I would say a big hello to my fellow brewers. I'm relatively new to Home-brewing but have caught the bug. I've now found myself starting a brew almost one after the other. I never thought I'd enjoy it so much and I was...
