    Corny keg question

This is the best guide I've read regarding carbonation. https://brulosophy.com/2016/05/12/sparkle-fizz-methods-for-carbonation/

    Keezer insulation question

Thats a different material. Polystyrene versus polyisocyanurate that is used in PIR solid insulation board.

    Keezer insulation question

The foil is a vapour barrier as the insulation doesn't work particularly well when it gets wet.

    Cleaning out trub

Thanks for the responses. I assume that you need to completely fill the fermenter. I have the wilko oxi, how much needs to go in per gallon? How long do you leave it and how much rinsing is required after to clear the oxi? Thanks Chris

    Cleaning out trub

When I've finished a brew I usually wash out as much of the trub and krausen marks as I can with warm water and a piece of kitchen roll, and after that wash out with washing-up liquid and rub with kitchen roll. I seem to recall someone once saying that using washing up liquid has a detrimental...

    Russian Imperial Stout

Just done a RIS so interesting to see the timelines for best drinking. Having read through this its made me wish I hadn't thrown out the 100+ bottles when I got my corny kegs. When you said you're not keen do you mean the recipe in the OP? Thinking of trying your recipe with choc malt. What sort...

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

First you talk about big jugs and now massive blow offs - I'm wondering if I'm in the wrong forum. :-)

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

That was 20g of yeast (but can't remember what type) into a 23l brew. Starting gravity was 1080 and target was 1018 (though there's another thread about this at the moment as it went up from 1020 before adding hops to 1028 when bottled). So about 8%. Set the temp to 20c but it tended to run at...

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

This happened a day after I set my last one going. Liquor poured out if the fermenting chamber when I took the front off. I just gave it a bit of a clean and set it going again. And then it came out again so just let it carry on.

    Everyone loves big jugs

Gravity gone up - now bottled at 1028

Thanks for your thoughts, very helpful. Given the reading taken after leaving the sample overnight had dropped to 1026, then if the sugar adds 3 points then I just have a random 3 unaccounted. Target was 1018 so was pretty close before the hops went in. I'm think I'll just release any gas in...

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

Every big beer I've done (RIS and Grand Cru) have blown out the top of the fermenter - the RIS in a big way. I had about 50% extra space in the fermenter and it went mad. So I'd go for as big a vessel as you can.

Gravity gone up - now bottled at 1028

It was 150g of Columbus pellets. It's a (very expensive) kit that I'd been toying with for ages and finally decided to spent the money. This one Russian Imperial Stout - Beerworks Craft Brewery Series Beer Kit - Love Brewing Took the sample from the bottling wand while bottling the beer had...

Gravity gone up - now bottled at 1028

After I transferred the beer into a 2nd vessel I added the sugar. I then cleaned the fermenting vessel and transferred it back so I could use the tap on the bottom with my bottling wand. Then I sterilised the bottles, so by the time I took the sample it may have been 30 minutes to an hour from...

    mixed feelings about bottling

Probably a bit late now but you could have gone to a supermarket and bought a load if the cheapest fizzy drinks you could find and re-use the PET bottles for bottling. Only downside being that you might have to drink it in 2l batches.

Gravity gone up - now bottled at 1028

Evening all. I have just bottled a Russian Imperial Stout and after bottling checked my gravity reading to find that it at 1028. The brew started at 1080 and after 3 days was down to 1026. After 7 days it was 1020 and I added 2 bags of hop pellets and left for another 4 days before cold crashing...

    Clean / sanitize tubing

Oxi did the trick. No need to get the no need to get the sewing kit and fridge magnets out. 😁

    Clean / sanitize tubing

This sounds perfect for an issue I have now. I left my hose in the turn for a day before cleaning and now can't get it clean - despite soaking in star san for weeks. Might still try pouring oxi granuals and then water into it and go for your plan after to clear any little particles.

    Carbing in a Corny Keg

Despite the fact that I do go for a hybrid method of burst carbing I am in complete agreement with everything you've said here. My friend and I regularly comment that the last beer pulled (before the keg kicks) is the best.
