    New FV reccomendations

I've ordered a basic Youngs bucket to replace my tired FV, will see how well it seals when it arrives.

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

Thanks, I'll go for the 2000 then, to save some similar future extra expense. Still after some cheap screws and nuts if anyone has a link?

    New FV reccomendations

I'm amazed my Google Search for Bigger Jugs has worked on the company network

    New FV reccomendations

It doesn't matter in day to day use, but always nice to know the FV has a good seal in both directions :thumb:

    New FV reccomendations

Airlock activity isn't totally important but it would be nice to know that something is going on without lifting the lid to check, and we all like a good bubble :-) Where did that lid come from Chippy?

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

Well nothing has moved gravity wise and with wanting the space back I'm going to bottle and condition this Ruby and see what happens, what would be people preferred volumes of CO2 for a beer of this style, I was thinking around 1.7 making it about 50g of Sugar for the small batch volume of about...

    New FV reccomendations

I'm in the market for a new FV or two, nothing flashy still in the plastic arena, but I wouldn't mind something that seals really nicely, my current old FVs have been fine for brewing but just once I'd like to see a bubble through my airlock  So what reccomendations do you have, don't mind...

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

Finally gathering parts to build one of these, most parts free from work (Fan, HDD Magnet, 12v PSU) got the PWM and the Stir bar on their way from ebay. Where is the best place to buy the mounting hardware from, and by best I mean the cheapest :-) And so I need a 2000ml flask for a decent...

    Asda

Picked some up on the way home, used to be 4 for a fiver only a few weeks back :-( But it's a reasonable selection :-)

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

So made it back home and have taken another reading, no change and if anything it's probably closer to 1.018 that 16 so still very high. The film doesn't seem to have multiplied so I'm er'ing on the side of a oil like film at the moment. Looking at my dates it's been in the FV since 21st Feb...

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

Well that provides some hope, I'll have a look and take a photo when I'm back home later

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

I use two thermometers, one glass traditional and one cheap digital one, both seem to calibrate accurately

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

Probably a plan, also i think it's time I treated myself to a new FV or two, so I might just bin the old bucket

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

The Mash went as planned 67 for 90, dropped a degree maybe two over the 90 minutes As for the yeast, I don't have all the notes with me but I think it just a British Ale yeast, nothing too specialsed

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

That's kind of what I'm trying to find out, it's been sealed back up for about a week since i last tested the gravity and took that picture, when I finally make it home this afternoon i shall have another look, but it may be heading drainward if that has grown :-(

    Beer not hitting target Gravity

Mu second AG brew has been in the FV for about 3.5 weeks now, after 2 weeks it was down to 1.018 so not, I upped the temp in my little brew chamber I've built to 20c to see if I could get it to ferment out to the 1.010 I'm aiming for, but all it's done is drop to 1.015-16, I can't see it...

BIAB Starter Kit (Peco Boiler, Chiller, Mashing bag, Mash Kit)

I got basically the same kit from Geterbrewed, and added the hop filter from HBC after the first couple of uses, it all works very well for what it is, and a great price. Only problem is that after only a few uses I already want to upgrade a few bits, but that's the kit junkie in me.

    Polypins

I used to have a 10 litre polypin, and it was fine to carb on, ales and stouts, if it started to balloon a bit to much for my liking you just let a little gas out via the tap.

    Mash Tun Question

Yeah, I'm not ready to buy yet, but when I do there will be some research into the best buy, but this is top of my list so far.

    Mash Tun Question

I've been looking at this one as well 42 litre for £69: http://the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acat...un-42-ltr.html Decent size for a good price with tap, this style does seem popular with the US brewers but I don't know what it's heat losses are like over the mash.
