    Ball valve tap leak

Never had a problem there, isolated it down to fluid getting down the threaded pipe and leaking out before that point. No need for any PTFE now on any thread except for where it threads in to the tap body.

    Ball valve tap leak

The eBay seller I used does advertise that over sized ID washer but didn't have any stock, but I was pretty sure that having a proper 1/2" O-Ring would solve most of my issues. The one I was supplied with the tap was like a hula hoop and was never going to seat properly.

    Ball valve tap leak

Resurrecting this old thread as my leak is now solved and it may help others. It would seem the main reason I had a leak was the supplied O-Ring was the wrong size and now I have an O-Ring that fits inside the nut recess perfectly, as a belt and braces approach I have added a Dowty washer on...

    Recipes - How To?

Cheers for the info, plenty to go on there, I do like to smell the hops when I am brewing but I guess it's about getting my head around the smells of raw ingredients and how they will taste in a finished beer, not tried a munch on the grain but will next brew day. I already have a few books...

Excellent, an opportunity for another brewing book :thumb: I shall hunt out a copy.

    Recipes - How To?

I'm only a few All-Grain brews in but as this hobby can fill almost any waking moment with thinking about kit changes, next beers to brew etc I think about brewing my own recipes rather than pre-assembled AG kits. I know there is lots of options for software to help in building recipes but is...

    one supplier or shop around?

The LHBS near me is good but not great, so I use that for little odds and sods I need that would be twice the price once postage is added, they are good for the occasional kit brew as well, kit prices are the same as most decent online suppliers, they only do a small selection of Grains and Hops...

    Electric Stainless Brew Kettle build

I may well also be interested if you were to split the parts.

    Electric Stainless Brew Kettle build

Yes that will be my next go to if the parts I have coming aren't a better fit. SWMBO bakes so little I'm not sure she would notice if one ended up with a hole in it :-)

    Electric Stainless Brew Kettle build

Thanks, yes the nut on mine seems a really poor fit and leaks, also the silicon O-Ring is the wrong size, but I have some diffeent ones on order in the quest for a non-leaky tap :-)

    Electric Stainless Brew Kettle build

That's a lovely looking build, can I ask where you got the Bulkhead adapter from?

    New Grainfather Conical Fermenter

It's nice and shiny and all that, but the price is epic and that's before you think about the temp controller and the chiller unit.

    How to Brew 4th Ed

It gets released just before my birthday and I don't have any previous versions, so it's on my Amazon Wish list :-) easy gift from the family.

    Cleaning Fermenting bucket

I just clean down with hot water and then make sure it's dry before putting it away. When it next gets used it gets a rinse with hot water and then a good covering of no rinse sanitiser.

    Propane prices

As a comparison I did an exchange on a 5KG bottle for the BBQ a few weekends back at a local garden centre and it was around £25, so that sounds like good value to me.

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

Mine was an issue with at least one dry joint on the power connector, once I waved the soldering iron over it all was good. As suggested best thing to do is check the polarity of the input and check the output witha meter. If you're getting the LED on then that's a decent sign the unput...

    2 lever Bottle Capper problems

Ditto Bench Capper, started like most with a two lever, but it can be fussy on bottles and just a bit unreliable so it wasn't long until I upgraded.
