    Best bench capper (from Amazon)

Mine looks the same as the second one, but it doesn't say who manufactured it on the Amazon one so I'm not sure if it's identical, that being said mine's worked flawlessly since I've had it and is a dream to use compared to a twin leaver capper, so much faster.

Shiny Tap on a budget barrel

Time to hit eBay and screwfix and test on my empty PB ahead of filling in a few weeks.

Shiny Tap on a budget barrel

Can you post up a photo of what it looks like all set up, and was copious amounts of PTFE tape required to make a good seal. Defintely sounds like something I want to set up on my PB's

    Some free Inkbird as compensation!

Please can you add me to the draw for the 3* Inkbird ITC-1000 or the ITC-306T , that would be great :-)

    Greg Hughes book discounted

Definitely a great price, I picked up a copy a couple of weeks back for a tenner and thought I'd found a bargain then.

    Funny Boiler boil

Yes, it's only the second use and it did it also on the first use, I scrub the element after use, it's still pretty shiny.

    Funny Boiler boil

I was thinking along both of those lines, it does have the false bottom from Geterbrewed, and it does look like the power cycling for what ever reason, it's in a good socket, I have the house to myself when I'm brewing so far, so apart from the radio nothing else is drawing any significant...

    Funny Boiler boil

Thanks for the reply, I think the size of the grain crush is definitely a factor, the grains so far are all off the shelf pre-crushed bags for recipes and probably not that fine. This brew day I stirred the mash twice, to get it nice and mixed in the mash, I sparge in a separate bucket at the...

    Funny Boiler boil

Used my Peco boiler for my second BIAB brew today, a couple of issues. Had a funny on\off rolling boil in the last 20 minutes of a 90 minute boil, shown in the video, which I can't get to embed for some reason. https://youtu.be/q9YU-aSgB5Y Any ideas what could cause this, there is no...

    BIAB Efficiency calculation

Just ran the figures for AG#1 that used only Maris Otter 5.3KG, ended with 20 litres in the FV at 1.044 which makes the efficiency just about 55%. I'll assume this is pretty low even for BIAB, some work to do on improving this figure. Still feel good though that I've learnt something new today.

    BIAB Efficiency calculation

Thanks for that, seems simple enough. I'll run the numbers on AG#1 I did and see what I get, then again when I do #2 on Tuesday.

    BIAB Efficiency calculation

As I move further into AG brewing with my BIAB set up I'd like to work out the efficiency I'm getting, but I'm not clear on how I do it. Do I work it out on just the mash volume, or because I sparge into another vessel after the mash is it worked out on the combined pre boil volume. Looking...

    Water Volumes

Thanks for all the input plenty for me to use to tweak the volumes to what I need, Maybe it's just the way it's written that makes no sense, and should read sparge back up to 19L plus losses. Target OG is is the 1050-54 range.

    Water Volumes

I'm trying to get my head around a Hobgoblin style recipe I'm planning for next week and the volumes of water required. It will be a BIAB brewday, the ingredients are an off the shelf pack and consists of approx 5KG grain and 45g of hops, the recipe is aiming for 19L in the FV, all fine so...

    Ball valve tap leak

I am also starting to think this also, there isn't much rigidity to the Peco even when cold, so this tap may get saved for the first bit of shiny I get if the leak continues to occure.

    Ball valve tap leak

Thanks, will wrap some more and try again. In your opinion should the rubber washer be inside or outside the boiler?

    Ball valve tap leak

I have a ball valve tap as an upgrade on my Peco boiler but I can't get it to seal properly. The hole is snug so I have to screw the thread threw it, I have re wrapped the thread as there was virtually no PTFE on it, the washer metal and rubber are on the outside and the leak is coming out...

    First BIAB Brew Day

Well it's been conditioning for just a week in the PB so it was time for a cheeky taste to see how we're progressing. Poured it early in to a 1 Litre bottle as my garage is bloody cold at the moment and I wanted it to be a bit warmer than garage ambient. It seemed to survive the process and...

Beer left in primary fermenter for a while - is it worth bottling?

Bottling day always seems like a bit of a chore, but the best thing I got was the bench capper, all the bottles grouped by height and capped quickly one after another The prep either end though even with a no rinse sanitiser can seem to take an age, never actually timed a 40 bottle fill though...

Impatience! - Can't wait to try my first BIAB

My first AG BIAB has been in the barrel for a week on Saturday and I shall be having at least one off of it this weekend to see what it's like, if it's good I'll have a another, if not then it's nice to see how the flavours change over a period of time going forward.
