    Flip top Grolsch type bottles

There's a guy selling blue flip tops on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/48-NEW-330ml-BEER ... dZViewItem) and another guy who sells german slender style flip tops 20 in a crate.(http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/schizoid-man0/) I've bought the ones from Schizoid-man0 and they were great. Also had some...

is all grain worth the hassle

Although I've never done one from extract with grain and hops, plenty of American brewers including Jamil Zainasheff (top notch medal winning Home Brewer who has written "Brewing Classic Styles") do brew like this and seem to get award winning beers. I've bought a couple of tins of Marris Otter...

    Sandyback - Crossbreed

Phew!!! Just made it back, it was scary :o :o Tasted the Crossbreed. No "chemical" taste just a big bitterness that lingers. I think that because the hops were old then the flavour has diminished and therefore only the bitterness comes through. You'll have to try. Also tried Sandyback...

    Sandyback - Crossbreed

Maybe you should try one out of the keg to see if it's different. I did bottle that from the keg so it may have picked something up on the way. I'm going in the garage to test again. Yes I'm going in the garage Wez, I may be some time !!  If I don't respond in 10 mins call the...

    Sandyback - Crossbreed

Thanks for the review. :thumb: Nice pint glass, where do you get that from   Well, I've got over half a keg of it left as I'm ok with it but agree with Wez, it's got an aftertaste BUT it's never got worse but is still drinkable. Maybe my malt was a bit old (nearly 9 months to 1...

    brewing perversions

Try some "Natrasleep" or some other so called herbal remedies in that section. They all usually contain hop extract or valerian extract. I've tried it and it seems to work ok. Get some quite vivid dreams sometimes too  On a side note, it usually the alcohol that keeps disturbing...

    Lagerbeer

Why don't you try a Kolsch? Ferment like an ale and then lager at low temp for a couple of weeks. Try the Cologne style Lager from Sainbury's "Taste the difference" range brewed by the Meantime Brewery in Greenwich. Would be interesting to see how someone else's turns out. :thumb:

    exploding bottles

I've found that bottles have become thinner over the past year or so. Some maybe the same shape but the industry is trying to be greener with glass usage and the weight of freight. Anyway, "good" bottles that most homebrewers use (I presume) and that most real ales come in tend to weigh 370 -...
