    weighing down nylon hop bag

I tied the hop bag to a sterilised tea cup, which seemed to work as an anchor - the bag still floats up, but it is a bit like an iceberg.

    Tasting whilst dry hopping

Ah! I wondered why SWIMBO kept kicking the dog!

    Tasting whilst dry hopping

I am dry hopping a Munton's premium Pilsner with 50g of Citra. By 'eck it's tastey. I'm finding it hard to resist drinking it in its current state, cloudy or not! Is there any harm in drinking beer before bottling/carbonation? Also does anyone else 'taste' as they go?

    BBC2 - Inside the Factory

I don't think Carling make any bones about the fact that they brew to v high abv then water it down. I was told this to be the case by someone fairly senior in Carling some years back. Having said all this, the Carling Black Label adverts used to be brilliant! It's cheap and many people...

How many units per week. [POLL]

I am in the 25-34 bracket, which is 100% beer. I have relatively low blood pressure, which means I am always thirsty. I gave up drinking wine, as I can knock back a glass or two like it is pop. I stopped drinking altogether for a couple of years, then for some reason had a pint, then...

    Motorbike.

Ah, but what about the second Mrs Tea! My wife has always refused to get on my bike. I am very envious of friends who are able to go for touring holidays with their spouses. One such mate chose his second wife partly with the express requirement that she would ride pillion! If you do go...

    Pilsner flat

Update: It is all a matter of time, it seems. Pleased to report a significant improvement in mouthfeel and a degree of carbonisation. The bubbles on the tongue make a massive difference, even if the bubbles are merely tickles rather than pops!

    Lib Dem manifesto.

Farron is my local MP. He personally answers emails and does a decent enough job as a local MP. So he will get my vote. BUT I think their manifesto will spilt their local vote (over Brexit polarisation) and Farron may well lose to the Conservatives. It wouldn't surprise me if this is the...

    Pilsner flat

Hi Leon It was at about 20 degrees for two weeks, the three weeks at around 16 degrees. No leaks from the PB. Cheers Steve

    Pilsner flat

Hi folks I have a pressure barrel of pilsner (Munton's premier range). I have drawn off a few pints over the last couple of weeks, but still very flat. It is a good month since I transferred it from the FV to the barrel and primed with brewing sugar. Should I open it up and chuck in some...

    Thanks, Fil, Very educational!

    First ginger. Beer

How long do I need to leave ginger beer in the FV? I am confused by all the recipes that skip the FV and brew in a 2 litre plastic bottle and drink within a week. Does that mean you can bottle whenever you like? And does that mean the abv is much lower if you bottle sooner? Still learning...

    2 lever Bottle Capper problems

Is it something I am doing wrong? Yesterday I was capping some bottles and the capper 'bit' the tops off two of the bottles. I am using recycled bottles, so it might be that the glass was thinner than normal, but it gave me quite a shock - potentially quite dangerous as well. The offending...

    First ginger. Beer

I too have started a ginger beer. No idea how it will work out. I'm making 10 litres. This is what I have done.... 350g root ginger, peeled and grated. 1/2 lime sliced and squeezed 2 small oranges - ditto 1/4 chilli - ditto 1 tsp cinnamon 3 tsp ground ginger 1/2 tsp...

    Four weeks and still bubbling.

Oh yes, bubbled like a good'n from day one. Probably stopped when it was in the garage as I wasn't looking!

    Four weeks and still bubbling.

By way of update, I took a hydrometer reading this evening- 1.030!! I am guessing that I took it into the garage too early and the temperature was too low and the fermentation slowed down until I brought it back inside. Now it's nice and toasty in the utility room where the boiler lives. It's...

    Four weeks and still bubbling.

I have an all grain brew in a demijohn that is still bubbling away coming up to four weeks fermenting. After about a week I put it in the garage for around ten days, where it cooled down and stopped bubbling. I brought it in the kitchen with a view to bottling and it started up bubbling...

    Carbonation

Sorry to hijack OP's thread, but what is the lowest and highest recommended temperature for bottle conditioning to get good carbonising?
