    Wyeast splitting question

hi all Relatively new here and only really getting starte with all grain. Made a handful of good batches on a grainfather now with dry yeast and would like to try liquid yeast but ouch the cost! Looking at getting a few brews out of each Wyeast pack my plan was to. Sterilise 4 jam jars (each...

    Erlenmeyer flask size?

Hi all Planning to get a Erlenmeyer flask to start making starters. Have found a nice 6000ml one for £30 which I assume is plenty big enough for anything I’ll ever make including good head room. However is there a down side of going too big? Additional starter related questions, how long can I...

    My first infection? With pics

Cheers for the reassurance. What’s the logic behind sloshing it about?

    My first infection? With pics

Hmm, maybe the sheer volume of fresh vegetation has just led to a lot more cr@p floating about than I’m used to.

    My first infection? With pics

So this is my 29th batch of beer and all previous brews have been fine but I think this one may have become infected asad1 My brother sent me some hops that were growing in his garden so I thought I’d make an IPA with them The brew was as follows I added the hops at the end of the boil...

    Grainfather glycol chiller

Thanks but done many batches and not had an issue. The shelf’s are rated at 50 pounds, my full fermenters weigh about 51 pounds. Given the perfectly flat bottom distributing the weight and the fact the spec is likely very cautious I’m sure it’s fine. This poster (from a different site) has much...

    Grainfather glycol chiller

Another vote for a repurposed fridge. This one came from freecycle so only cost the fuel to collect One of these for £10 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0799GZB4G/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 One of these for £20 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LPHIMW0/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 £30 all in, I...

Quick question for any Grainfather owners

Replacement top pipe (which turned out to be the problem) dropped off at my house by Mark (the grainfather rep) in person. You can’t ask for better than that. He chucked me a few extra’s as well acheers.

Quick question for any Grainfather owners

Where in Cheshire is their rep? (I’m in Chester myself) Without it more grain and bits would come up from below the top grain plate (as the top overflow pipe is a very loose fit in the hole in the grain plate) so you’d end up with lots of bits in the wort and a very cloudy beer. I have made 2...

Quick question for any Grainfather owners

Yes it is the pipe with the spring on. The lower pipe goes inside the top pipe so has a much smaller diameter. Contacted the supplier who passed my issue onto GF. got a response within an hour saying it should fit and asking for the serial number. I’ve supplied this so will see what happnes.

Quick question for any Grainfather owners

thanks, I did get it on once by twisting. Not something I could do once it's installed in the GF and its a temp! I the also needed a vice to get it off! Not the most exciting video you’ll watch today but is this normal

Quick question for any Grainfather owners

This may sounds stupid but I think there may be a problem with part of the grainfather I received last week. The ‘Overflow Inlet’ (part 36 on the 3rd page of their manual) does not fit over the ‘top overflow pipe’ like I believe it should (step 8 on page 8 of the manual) I assume this is down...

Urgent help needed with brew in progress (Grainfather)

That’s probably my best option but I don’t know I trust my FV To hold boiling water and I don’t have anything else large enough

Urgent help needed with brew in progress (Grainfather)

hi all Just making my first batch with the Grainfather. Just starting the boil stage and was giving it a stir across the base (as instructed in the manual) and I’ve inadvertently knocked the pump filter off  Given I rather not plung my hand into boiling beer to reattach it what are my...

Best place / time to buy grainfather

Cheers for the tip! I did also purchase a long steel spoon so hopefully good to go!

Best place / time to buy grainfather

Thanks for the insight (though too late as I’ve now ordered one) I wasn’t nessesairly looking for a quicker start to finish time, just the least possible ‘hands on’ time. I work from home so I’m hoping with the GF connect or linked to the iPad I can just run downstairs to kick off the next...

Best place / time to buy grainfather

Cheers for the suggestions all. I have a corny keg setup but usually end up bottling a few from each batch either as the batch was bigger than the kegs capacity or to have a few portable beers. I’ve tried force carbonating a few times but although quicker from brew to drinking I think it took...
