    Chill Haze

Looks fine to me, You can do a protein rest at 55C but as you have said with todays well modified malts it's not really required. You then run into the issue of potentially removing head forming proteins . . . and the one thing you don't want is a lack of head

    Chill Haze

That 'article' is somewhat simplified. . . .to the point at which any resemblance to accuracy is lost. Some mega breweries do add tannins to the beer before crash chilling to force a chill haze, which is then filtered out. chill haze may or may not be reversible as well, generally as long as...

    How To Test AA ?

Yes it really is that difficult . . . and note that it requires a UV Capable spectrophotometer, a standard one will not cut the mustard. Brewers of old didn't know the alpha acids either, just use the 10 year average for the variety you have that will be close enough

    hefe

Up to 10% depending on the percentage of the wheat

    hefe

Yeah, but have you ever brewed a 75% wheat beer?? If you are BIAB then you can get away without, 3 Vessel, might be a good idea to use them

    hefe

That is not strictly true, There are benefits to doing a 35-45C rest even with well modified English malts, This helps to break down the beta-glucans from the wheat, and encourages the formation of the precursors to ferrulic acid (the clovey flavour/aroma). As you are below the temp range for...

Your average pub pint compared to home brew?

I aim my expectations of the beer depending on the 'style' of the beer. Generally this works ok, and I rarely find myself underwhelmed by a pint of cask beer . . . I had a pint of Speckled hen on Thursday, that was OK nothing that was going to blow my mind but then I know what OSH is going to be...

Hard lumps of spraymalt in my brew

Spraymalt should be mixed into cold water to avoid the clumping issue ;) It will dissolve with time, some more boiling water and stirring will help get rid of the lumps. RDWHAHB

    How long is sterile?

That is NOT what 5 star and Charlie Talley say. You can use a made up solution while the pH is below 3.5 It actually says nothing about reusing it But then when you use 8ml of star san in a 5L bottle, it's costing peanuts why would you want to risk 20 quid (kit brewers) or 10 hours of your...

Does changing your water profile affect mash efficiency?

Yes but not to that extent, other factors play a much bigger role in efficiency

The loss of a real politician.

Integrity . . . . This is a man that had a public school education and then said it should eb denied to everyone esle as it was elitist :hmm: The man that publicly withdrew his son from Eton (While he was a Labour MP) . . as it was elitist and class ridden . . . .without actually saying that...

    Water hardness at 427ppm

They quote a typical analysis on the bottle ;) While it MAY be bottled at different sources actual analysis over time has showed it to be remarkably stable, and close to the 'typical' profile. User wallybrew has posted the analysis for smartprice on JBK several times IIRC

    Water hardness at 427ppm

AH HA! That explains it! I've been trying to work out where in the UK you were to have a hardness that high. Just a little request to everybody please fill in the Location part of your profile (User Control Panel -> Profile -> Location) even if it is just a general hint of where you are, it...
