Several trees down in the Belfast area with some close calls involving cars. Damage to property is happening and we're not even close to the peek

Just looking at some of the damage down South atm and it's crazy atm. Seen a video of a school roof blowing off and a picture of Cork City FC's stand has been wrecked. It's to hit us in a few hours but it is very gusty atm.

Thanks, Belfast here and winds are picking up. It looks like the West Coast of Ireland/ Donegal and Londonderry will get the worst but already a shop front has blown down close to us. We're well prepared with candles and digital devices charged up but I think we should be fine living in a big...

    PET Bottles in the dishwasher

The heat will shrink them imo. Dishwashers reach near boiling temperatures, I also wouldn't imagine it would clean them properly even for normal bottles but it might be a decent way to sterilise them?

    L.p.g.

We have a member who runs his car on bio fuel (forget his name, hope he spots this thread). I've considered it for my own car but I only spend £10 PW on diesel so maybe not really worth the hassle. There was a local garage that offered conversions and sold the gas but I haven't seen the sign...

Is there an app or program...

The Wort App for Android gives you a style guide where you could maybe work backwards.

The end of the World to start 23rd September.

To the O/P, just had a look at Stellarium because these premonitions usually fall at the first hurdle and it's Venus, Mars and Mercury that are in a line but these alignments happen all the time. Some spotty astronomy kid has noticed this in advance, posted it somewhere and then some conspiracy...

    labels

+1 for this software. You can also buy cheap generic labels rather than the Avery ones which tend to be expensive. Personally I use small labels and don't make anything fancy as I'm the only one that drinks the stuff.

    Hobbies.

A bit wide and varied. For my sins I don't follow any English Clubs but I have a strong passion for my local team, Glentoran (hence my name) I go to most home games and while the league in general sucks, the games are great and the standard isn't that bad. It's good weekly entertainment. I...

Filtering from fv to corny keg

I am thinking along the same lines but I think I will ferment in a corny keg under about15-30psi pressure, that way you can ferment at higher temperatures with no off flavour from esters that you would normally get from high temp fermentation I never thought about esters but even brewing at...

Filtering from fv to corny keg

I've only done it once and discarded the filter. Filters are only a few pounds each so maybe not worth spoiling a full brew to save pennies. You can't really sterilise the filter either, only the housing as the filter would filter out the sterilising particles. I'm not sure if the filters are...

Filtering from fv to corny keg

I have filtered with gravity through 10 micron filter like the O/P and it worked just fine. I sterilised everything but the filter (it comes sealed) and the beer was fine but I'd be curious about how the O/P gets on.

NI electric bike riders 'must have licences'

It was on Nolan's radio show this morning. Don't worry for the rest of the UK, it seems we just haven't caught up with the laws regarding electric bikes introduced in the 1990's. It does pose some questions though. Police have never prosecuted anyone here but they said they will uphold the law...

Some ideas for a lager beer?

I'd just buy a kit. He'll either like it or not. Back to my own lager days, I've drank everything from Harp, Carlsberg, Tuborg, Carling etc. Moving from 1 to the other was horrible but once you got 1 down your neck, the next the beer tasted well. If he's nothing else to drink he'll like it...

Brew day to drinking in two weeks. How to?

My thoughts also. Notty yeast will chew through it in 3 days. Syphon into a clean FV and use gelatin and cold crash as soon as fermentation ends. Bottle after 5 days, again warm condition for as long as possible and cold crash really cold the day before 1°. I think you'll have something...

Football Money - Noses in the Trough

I watch my local game (see avatar.) £11 for decent quality football and we get the chance to play these fan boys once in a blue moon. Money has ruined the game but if we didn't pay more and more then the pyramid scheme would come toppling down - it will some day. I do pay for Virgin TV but...

Geterbrewed sell CO2, if a bit expensive.

    New Guy - Belfast area

Nifex in West Belfast will fill a CO2 bottle, not sure if they sell them but it would do no harm in asking. You could ask a local Fire Extinguisher place if they can get you a bottle. I was lucky in that a local brewer went to England and sourced me and another forumite a bottle each for £25...

    The beach

I drove up to Donegal on a scorching day 20 years ago. Burnt one arm as I had it out the drivers window, also got stung by a wasp when it flew up my sleeve while doing 70mph down the motorway, that was an experience not to be forgot! Beaches were empty and crystal clear. Even though it was a...
