Can I reduce the ABV of a recipe?

I acknowledge I am a complete novice so happy to be told what I think is b****cks but would it be easier to remove the alcohol after making the beer by heating it and evaporating the alcohol in the same way as cooking? Alcohol will boil at about 78 degrees C I think, so if the finished beer...

St Peters Ruby Red ale stuck!

The same thing happened to my St Peters IPA after about a week which as it was my first brew and I was totally paranoid about things was a bit of a worry. It started at 1046 and went off like a train and then just stopped. Having researched here I went for swirling the FV to disturb the yeast...

    Beer brewed from sea water

About 4 years ago I was in Boston with work and had a beer made with salt, can't for the life of me remember what it was called but fairly sure it was a Sam Adams. It was a dark larger, very hoppy and was served in a glass with a salted rim much like a cocktail would be. I must have liked it...

Replacement 38mm screw cap with hole

Not sure of the exact dimensions but would something like this not work? https://www.home-brew-hopshop.co.uk/homebrew-fermenters/litre-pet-demijohn-spare-cap-and-grommet-p-1891.html This is the online shop of my LHBS The Hop Shop in Plymouth. Not huge but very knowledgeable with a good...

    water cooler bottles

Thinking about it the handle could also prove a problem by providing a ledge for sediment to collect on which could cause an issue I guess. Maybe just for bulk priming and bottling then.

Insulated foam camping mats - £2.50

Just picked up 2 insulated foam camping mats at Tesco for £2.50 a pop. As I don't yet have a brew fridge these are great for keeping a bit of heat in the FV's. Probably long enough to make 2 blankets from each mat for a standard FV. They have straps as well to keep them in place. Seems like...

    water cooler bottles

That's a very good point actually. The neck is quite narrow, about 6cm wide although with enough work it would come clean each time. I'll give one a go and see how it goes. What's the worse that can happen.

    water cooler bottles

Hi I have managed to get hold of a couple of water cooler bottles similar to the attached picture. I assume they are safe for food as they are used in our office water coolers. I thought they might be re-purposed as a bottling bucket although realise fitting a tap is going to be impossible...

    One for the older members.

Every year we have a family Christmas party on Boxing day and everyone has to bring a quiz. I did a picture quiz one year on TV idents which caused some discussion. Simply photo-shopping the picture to remove the obvious stuff then guess the TV station. Like this one.

 Thanks, didn't see that one, I guess I can take this one down then. I did have a look but could find the topic. Trying to read everything on here but work keeps getting in the way.

    Life away from brewing

So, I'm new to this forum and new to brewing having been given some kit for my birthday this month. I've have a St Peters IPA going nicely and already planning the next one. I thought that would be it but the bug bit and I'm already looking for where I can make more space for more FV's so I...

    new to home brew

Hi all My wife and kids clearly thought I needed something to occupy my time and keep me out of their way during the winter as I wont be getting to the allotment much in the bad weather so they bought me a home brew starter kit. I have made wine in the past but wanted to turn my hand to...
