Protofloc Increases rate of fermentation and attenuation

I use it for the same reason and for that reason I don't use finings. I don't have many vegetarian or vegan friends but if I did come across some they would still be able to drink my beer...if they had the strength to lift the glass that is....

    Single hop Challenger

Will be interested as to how this turns out as Challenger is my go to hop for bittering English style beers but I haven't used it beyond first boil stage.

    AmberStar

Amber Star 15/09/17. Used 3.8kg of MO, carapils, extra dark crystal, tiny bit of CaraMunch. Used Wilko Gervin yeast. Hops 29g chinook at start, 10g bramling cross and 20g Brewers gold at 15, at flameout 29g bramling cross and 20g Stryian Golding. Was below 20 litres so chucked in some spring...

    cascade single hop

Thanks for the info. Did an all Cascade some time ago but it was a more full on high IBU IPA so will be interested how it turns out with this lower level IBU.

    cascade single hop

Used some mandarins barvaria hops in the dry hop as I had 10g left so I know this is not strictly a single hop beer anymore but they were just left over so chucked them in with 60g of Cascade.

    cascade single hop

I believe in total precision, one gram more and it will be too bitter and one gram less it will be too sweet.....no not really, it's a Greg Hughes recipe so I just followed the orders!

Out of Date Kit - Viable?

Yes as already said - kit will be fine but yeast may not be viable. As an aside don't ever bother if the kit is over ten years out of date..the results are horrible!

my coopers family secret ale has stopped at 1010

Agree with this, 1010 is pretty good for a kit as I used to get 1012 as a stop for most of them, rising to 1014. Sugar will make it drier as there is no malt flavour after it has been converted to alcohol. Honey will do the same thing in a AG brew..you think it will be honey sweet but by the...

    2 AGs in one day

My wife reckons I could do two in a day..I just need the time and no kids around asking me to do things:thumb:

Tesco has apologised for any offence from a beer advertisement

"Given back to people" you mean housing developers? They are already making loads of cash on knocking down pubs and building flats on them. I go to church and I like Christianity (the message of Jesus not some of that other Old Testament nonsense that is anti this or that). I did a...

Not Middle Earth (New Zealand Pale Ale)

As Lent is over I have had one of these for the first time. The beer was clear and straw in colour and held its head throughout. The taste was different to what I expected having used many American hopped IPAs. The aroma was subtle and malty and the taste was very much like a german beer which...

    John Bull IPA Review

I did a couple of very out of date kits and they were foul, so I personnally wouldn't expect much from them 20 year old one!

    Do you need to sanitize?

I used to work in a place bottling wine. We used steam to give all the machinery a very good through clean so thought I might as well do the same for my own stuff!

    Do you need to sanitize?

I use a Buffolo boiler as a mash tun and then a 32l wort pot to boil. I always boil some water before using and after and in both cases let the steam clean the inside and the boiling water run through the tap to clean and sanitise it. After using the boiling pot I wash it and then boil water in...

    The Dolby System "English" Saison

I suspect I will drink my first in a few weeks time but also now have the advantage of a whole load of other beer that is ready so can leave the bulk of these for those months to age, looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I might buy bulk Pilsner malt instead of MO for my next brewing...
