    BIAB kettle

Thanks Galena This has a concealed element so presumably no need for a false bottom. The bazooka would be useful if it doesn't get clogged? How long does it take you to get to strike temperature normally? And from mash to boil?

    BIAB kettle

I’ve been looking at the digiboil 35L unit for £120. Anybody got any experience of this unit? I understand it’s a brewzilla/brew devil without the pump and extras (and £200 cheaper!). Alternatively any suggestions on what to look for? I currently BIAB with a 15L pot on the stove but struggle to...

How would you use these ingredients?

30 minute boil with hops in at 30 minutes?

    Surfingobo’s brew day’s

Should have said both 8L batches so each will get half a pack of Mangrove Jacks M54 Californian lager yeast. Another good reason to try this double brew method as I don’t want to store open packs of dry yeast!

    Surfingobo’s brew day’s

Currently brewing a Vienna Saaz SMaSH. Brew number 8. 2KG Vienna malt and 10g Saaz at 60 min, 5g at 15min and 5g at flameout then no chill (straight in thick glass fermenter) Then I plan to use the spent grain plus some pale chocolate and some Carafa 2 to make a “table stout” ala Brulosophys...

    Early bottling question

I brewed two very different beers at the weekend, both fermented with st Austell proper job yeast, both 8L BIAB. A bitter aiming for about 3.5% and a NEIPA style but aiming for a lower than style 4.8%. Brewed on Friday and Saturday respectively and by Tuesday they were down to 1.010 and 1.014...

    My Hop Taste Has Changed

I wouldn’t say changed so much as I’ve always appreciated a decent bitter/stout with the malt flavour coming through... but I do like a hoppy pale or ipa!

    Surfingobo’s brew day’s

Brew 3, the Evil dog DIPA was bottled after 2.5 weeks in the fermenter, it just didn't want to stop! Came out at 1.007 FG for a whopping 8.1%. Tastes very nice already but I think it could have done with more than the 50g of simcoe for the dry hop. If i ever do it again I will probably add...

    Beer a touch too bitter.............

@AdeDunn interested to know what you use instead, my brews have got an ever so slightly cidery taste that I had put down to bring kits, but could be the sugar. Could this be part of the reason that force carbonating beers are ready in a few days where bottle condition beers need weeks, even once...

    Stockpot recommendation

With the wilko 12L pot and the central wok burner ring on my 5 ring hob it took approx 20 minutes to reach strike temp today from tap temp. Wrapped in 2 towels it lost 1.5 degrees and I got the the same efficiency (65%) with the one stir at 30 minutes as I did on the last mash with a stir every...

    Verdant yeast for free

I gave up, site going so slowly it took 10 mins to get to check out and then I couldn't find the 'Coupon' box. Have ordered a 'Haze' yeast from crossmyloof instead, will give the recipe I built for this a go.

converting an electric pot to not be electric anymore

Oh, it’s also 201 grade steel which I believe is more prone to rust than the normal 304, probably why it’s so cheap!

converting an electric pot to not be electric anymore

It says on that listing that you fit the element yourself. Give them a call and see if they can not drill the hole for it! it also says the pot is 30L in the description.

    Verdant Maltmiller Comp

They have said it is a new strain form Verdant Brewery, Cornwall.

    Verdant Maltmiller Comp

I’m planning to give it a try. Huge hop bill but I only brew 8L batches so if it goes wrong then it’s not the end of the world. a bit confusing but I think they are sending the yeast out before its release date?

    Stockpot recommendation

@NPi how do you find the bigger pot? I’ve got a conventional 5 ring gas hop and use the central “wok” burner. It takes about 20 minutes to bring my 12 ish litres of water to strike temp. What do you use to heat and how long does it take?

    Stockpot recommendation

The wilko 12L stockpot is actually about 15L. £20. Done two 8L brews in mine with just under a 2kg grain bill BIAB and it’s great. I don’t think it’s the greatest grade of steel but it works just fine and the handles are strong enough.

    Surfingobo’s brew day’s

Ok, brew 1 coopers IPA has been tried after 2 weeks in the bottle. Not overly impressed, quite a twang to it which I can only guess is the “homebrew twang” everyone talks about. Over carbonated (, no scales so was just one “level” teaspoon which when my scales arrived turned out to be 4-6g per...
