    Highest ABV

Most of my beers float around the 6% mark, but so far I have brewed from a 3.8% light summer ale to an 8% double IPA. I am looking to do a strong stout soon for Xmas though but will probably still be in single figures%.

    What are you drinking tonight.

    How long is too long?!

Figures make more sense at 19L, missed your volume post.

    How long is too long?!

Ran the figures through Brewers friend. Presuming a 23L batch you would need 95% efficiency to hit 1.070 but the expected F.G. would be 1.029 at mash temp of 70C

    Hi from Derry

Yes when I posted on the home-brew academy page that I had bought the Grainfather Andrew was the first to offer me any advice required. I know they have had a few home-brew meets at the Walled City Brewery, it's just a bit too far for me for an evenings travel. If they ever do a more advanced...

    Hi from Derry

Welcome to the forum. It was the same course that got me hooked a couple of years ago, and it was on the recommendation from Andrew that day that I decided to go for a grainfather when I moved to all grain.

    Hi from ireland

Hi Sean, welcome to the forum. Very helpful bunch on here. I was in an identical position to yourself when I joined 2 years ago. Having just returned to the hobby after trying the old Boots kits many years ago. The kits have moved on amazingly and they ability to get answers to any issues you...

    Stuck fermentation

Just a thought did you adjust your refractometer reading for alcohol content. A reading of 1.030 for a brew that started at 1.060 would suggest a true reading of 1.013.

    What did you brew today?

A week on from brewing my Greg Hughes summer ale with centennial swapped hops and Imperial citrus yeast. Has dropped to 1.012, so 3.8% taste is really good from the fermentor so I'm not going to bother with a dry hop. Will leave in the fermentor for another week then cold crash. Going to try and...

    Camra

There are a handful of non spoons cask drawn ale bars in Belfast now. The 2 that I would be in are the John Hewitt and the Sunflower. The Sunflower has actually dumped the big breweries and is selling nearly all craft ales from local breweries. Some of it isn't the best, but there are usually a...

    Camra

Here in Northern Ireland Cask drawn ale was a real rarity until quite recently. There were probably a couple of places selling it but I never remember seeing it here in my youth. On several trips to England I tried cask drawn ale and thought it was bloody awful. It was probably past its' best or...

    What did you brew today?

Have no centennial left but I do have some lemon drop in the freezer so may dry hop with that, will taste after initial fermentation and then decide.

Brewing a citrus summer ale today. Basically Greg Hughes summer ale but I've swapped the hops for centennial and am using Imperial A20 citrus yeast.
