Will you be watching the royal wedding?

Maybe...if someone kidnaps me and clamps my eyes open clockwork orange style [emoji23] Best of luck to them as a couple, but I care marginally less than any other strangers wedding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Dual use Fridge Freezer

I've seen lots of people on HBT doing side-by-side fridge freezers that only had one compressor. They mostly seem to use the compressor to run the keg-side at a low temp, then cut holes with fans to move cold air into the ferm-chamber side when needed (closed by gravity grill flaps/louvres when...

    Beavertown recipes?

I’d be keen to hear how they turn out, two great beers. Gamma ray clone is on my list but will be a while before I can get to it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What's the 1 bit of advice you wish someone had given you, which you'd pass on to a new brewer?

Interesting, thanks both. Do you know if the cheap ones (10-15£) are good enough or is it worth getting a better one? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What's the 1 bit of advice you wish someone had given you, which you'd pass on to a new brewer?

I’m curious about this (as I don’t have one...) what’s the advantage over hydrometer? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Home Brew Competition Schedule

I’ll happily take dark beers in October if it’s going :) Really interested in seeing what other home brewers are getting up to and can hopefully send some off for a few before then too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Gellatine

Does this affect priming at all, if you’ve stripped out a lot of the yeast? Or does it not affect yeast at all? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Ginger beer plants

@Fil my understanding was that it can be challenging to create a traditional healthy plant with the right yeast/bacterium makeup and sounds good peebee, looking forward to give it a go! not sure how long I'll last though, infamously bad at remembering to do things regularly.

New to AG and need help batch sparging

Someone else might know better but I think this is pretty unlikely. I suppose age might reduce the number enzymes that convert the starch to sugars but if sealed and stored in a cool place my gut says it would take a long time to cause significant problems (not very scientific I know). If you...

    Ginger beer plants

BOGOF Ginger plant starters at http://www.gingerbeerplant.net/shop.php for the next err...2 hours :/ Apparently they're genuine oldschool 'plants' but can't vouch for them yet. Just ordered a couple to find out

I can't figure this out. A fermentation question

IIRC you should rehydrate yeast in clean (boiled and cooled) water rather than wort. My understanding is that the dehydrated yeast’s cell walls can’t control what gets absorbed so lots die from over-absorbing nutrients and other stuff, hence not pitching straight into the FV. Once rehydrated in...

New to AG and need help batch sparging

I brew BIAB so don’t know about sparging methods, but have you noticed any pattern with the grains used in low batches? Which grain, where it was bought, crushed etc? I think there was a recent thread where someone having problems with really low efficiency on a couple of batches realised they...

    Multiple beers from one wort

I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a kind of Partigyle style brew with BIAB. Mash one high OG wort, take the bag out and then rinse/soak the grains in a second pot of water to make a much weaker wort. Kind of like a second runnings. You could then blend them a little bit to bring up the...

How hot is too hot? (Brewjacket solution?)

I have a similar problem and have been looking at most of the things you mentioned. DIY peltier chillers seem to be reported as a bit ineffective, especially immersion ones. But if you only want to take a couple of degrees off maybe it could be a cheapish solution. Two other options I’ve come...

    Have a Go Grain Orders

I started off with 2 gallon batches and would either order grains in combination with new equipment to mitigate delivery as mentioned above, or order 3-4 batches worth. If you order in small bags and store sealed in a dry place you should be able to keep them for quite a while. I've kept open...
