Beer styles you’ve struggled to brew successfully

Only time I’ve used melanoidin was in a Belgian blonde (having been told it was an ok substitute for a decoction) and the beer ended up with a tonne of honey flavour. Was only about 5% of grain bill, could that be the source? There was a bit of biscuit and Munich in there too

    Donald Trump

I find it pretty hard to believe tariffs are going to bring back any jobs to the US. Might boost the Mexican steel industry though ;) I’ll hold judgement on whether NK talks can be called ‘productive’. Just saying yes to an invite that every recent president has got (and has turned down with...

Beer styles you’ve struggled to brew successfully

I've not had a chance to make many styles twice yet but this is true for me so far. Both of my 3.5% and below beers (an ordinary bitter and a pale ale) have come out incredibly thin and bland. I've read I should look at extra grains like wheat and carapils and try a higher mash temp for the...

Bottles; where do you get them?

I've found an overnight soak in oxiclean and most labels will just fall off in the bucket, (+ it helps get them clean easier). I just kept an eye on local second hand listings to get bottles, recently picked up 80 brown swing-tops for £25 with another 60 matching brown 500ml crown cap bottles...

    What are you drinking tonight.

Had a few Guinness at the local in honour of the dry stout I'm bottling tomorrow. Plus a couple of homebrews: a dodgy Hefe () and a decent-ish IPA.

What The Hell Are The Police Doing

For the most part I would give a homeowner the benefit of the doubt in these cases, but it 's to go through due process. Hopefully the guy will be treated well despite the arrest and it won't go any further unless it turns out that things aren't quite what they seem. I don't think you have the...

A few more novice questions after bottling my 3rd batch

It's already been mentioned but basic Oxi-cleaners (sold as fabric stain removers) are a lot cheaper than proper PBW and my understanding is that they do almost the same job. My local supermarket sells their own brand for £3 per kilo (make sure it's the free from perfumes etc.), can probably...

    Hi All

Hi everyone, Started brewing last summer and have been lurking on forums, soaking up all the great knowledge, thought it was about time to sign up! I've been brewing stovetop BIAB with 10 x 10l brews under my belt (with some success and some disasters!) and just DIY'd a 33l plastic bucket...
