    Covid-19 the second wave.

What annoys me is our government keeps being given choices, and even a random answer would have a positive effect about half of the time, but it seems that EVERY time they have to make an informed decision, it seems to be the wrong one? Is there a national response? Is our army and navy being...

    Classic Band Aid/Medicinal Problem

Just don't try the flavoured stuff.

    Bulldog Brews Hercule Saison

I think it worked out at 120g of white sugar for a 23L batch. - https://www.brewersfriend.com/beer-priming-calculator/ Which is 2.85g per 500ml bottle. This saison kit does produce a high head, but was a fine foam because of the carbonation, and I had a couple that looked like Mr Whippy with...

    Classic Band Aid/Medicinal Problem

Is it possible that it is a bacterial infection that is taking advantage of a stuck fermentation? Maybe not completely stuck, but slowed down enough by a few cold days or maybe a sudden spike in temperature- enough to kill some yeast or at least make it inactive. At an elevated temperature the...

    Bulldog Brews Hercule Saison

I batch primed it as I think that is more accurate. I used the priming calculators at the top of the page and went for 2.2vols of CO2 which was the highest I have aimed at. Turned out very well and as high a carbonation as I would safely attempt. Perfect at 4 months from brewing. I would drink...

    Kegs blown up

It could be a timing issue with all the covid problems things may have been delayed at some point. I seem to remember Brewdog having similar issues on cask IPA. Wychwood are pretty good at customer service. Just had an order delivered of 16 bottles for my collection and they even included the...

    Very cheap demijohn warmer

I forgot to add you also need a socket for the 12v charger. I had a load from CCTV equipment, but one of these will be ideal to connect things easily - They are a standard size of 5.5mm(outer) 2.1mm pin. You can get them as solder type connections, inline or screw terminals, but a type with...

How to plug a tap hole in a fermenter?

I wouldn't overly worry about food grade this or that. Soft plastics like PVC are more likely to leach plasticisers than hard ones and most of us use whatever PVC pipe we have to syphon our brews anyway. Heat is a factor too but I doubt you will be boiling in it. You are likely to absorb more...

    Very cheap demijohn warmer

I came up with this yesterday as I had to move two DJ's out of the brew fridge. It all runs off a standard 12v power supply. I used a 2A rated one but it draws just under 1A so should be fine with that type too. It uses a pair of 12v handlebar heaters - available as two for £3.80 - Linky And...

    What did you brew today?

Just a Mango Jacks Cider "New Zealand Brewers series" box. Brewed to instructions. Seemed a bit dark in colour, and a very small addition of sweetener at the start but should pop out at 5ish%. Not expecting miracles as it's quite a small and cheap kit at £13 for 40 pints but an easy kit to do.

    Recapping overcarbonated beers

If you chill them overnight in a fridge you may be able to unclip then re seal them while holding the top on, so you are only letting CO2 out and not fully uncapping them you should be ok. This will let a bit out but not as much as them being room temperature.

    Ispindel alternative board

I would make a dry mock-up first using that MCU, then shrink the design to fit inside a 50ml centrifuge container. A waterproof beach money container may also work, or just machine a section of acrylic tubing to take end plugs with O rings. This is what I nearly always do in my designs. First...

    R.I.P Thread.

The funnier one of the two, which probably took more work. Never seen without his trademark red braces. Even in other shows.

How to degas wine with a home made degassing wand

To degass in the bucket I'm using the standard plastic stirring paddle in a drill. Cutting off the useless little loop helps. I'm going to buy another one to cut down (like the fly swatter) to fit the DJ neck, but with the bits cut off I can use a nylon nut and bolt to re-attach two paddles and...

Beer and wine tasting - legal stuff

Does anyone know the law on inviting a few friends around to sample homebrew? If for example people brought bottles with them to a BBQ that they had brewed themselves - can they share them? What if someone doesn't bring any and offers to pay for the next set of ingredients? Can they legally have...

    Polytunnel

Well that is the plan anyway, but there are so many directions it can go in. I would like it to be more of a community thing, room for summer BBQ's or a fire pit for evening relaxing. As we will be a drop point for tree surgeons for woodchip there won't be a shortage of wood to burn. Funding is...
