    inkbird being a little intense

Just a note. I think you’re on the power limit of the Inkbird? They can handle 10amps, which you are pulling with a 2400w heater. If that’s switching on and off repeatedly, by lowering the heating differential, it might not last long. Correct me if I’m talking rubbish!

Straining wort into fermenter - BIAB

Thanks again. So this extra break I'm experiencing, if not because of the grain bag, is be because I'm cooling the wort a lot quicker using the immersion chiller. Previously I used an ice bath. I'm coming back to brewing after a little break but I seem to have forgotten a lot. I'll stop with...

Straining wort into fermenter - BIAB

@Agentgonzo - thanks, I don't know why I haven't syphoned the wort before. I've just finished the Betty Stoggs clone, used a small amount of protafloc 15mins before flame out, which I normally do, chilled to 20c, waited 20mins then syphoned to the FV. I got to the bottom of the clear wort and...

    Klarstien Mundschenk Bargain?

Hi all is this as much of a bargain as it seems? Recirculating pump and grain basket with it. It’s copper colour but said it’s made of stainless I can’t tell if it is just for mashing or can boil as well? Any Klarstien Mundschenk owners out there...

Straining wort into fermenter - BIAB

@Cheshire Cat - I tried this with a sieve, because the straining bag kept clogging up, but everything passed straight through my sieve! Have to find one with a finer mesh I guess…

Straining wort into fermenter - BIAB

Thanks everyone. Planning a simple Bettty Stoggs clone next so I'll try letting it settle and syphon into the fermenter. @LeeH - thanks mate "just chuck it in" has been my philosophy to date and they have been very drinkable beers! ..... but you can always try and do better!

Straining wort into fermenter - BIAB

Thanks Gonzo, may be I'm being a bit to keen to get it in the fermenter! how long do you need to let the wort settle though? I move the immersion chiller to cool the wort quicker but this obviously stirs everything up, do you then need to leave it for an hour or 2 to settle? All seems counter...

Straining wort into fermenter - BIAB

Hello all, Any advice and opinions are very welcome! I've done 20 or so stove top BIAB brews to date and feel like my mashing process is quite reliable. What I'm struggling with is the amount of trub I'm left with. The last 2 brews were pretty similar ingredients. The first one I just...

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Anyone tried this? New one to me. I love a lot of wye valleys traditional ales, but this fandango is right up there with the modern style hoppy beers, very drinkable!

Brewfather IBU anomaly Gamma Ray Clone

Yeah, I realised the hop stand wasn't taken into account, I added a 30 min hop stand at 85C which added 15 IBU think I'm going to go with it.....

Brewfather IBU anomaly Gamma Ray Clone

Hi Baron do you have to put in the dry hop utilisation yourself? If so what percentage is about right?

Brewfather IBU anomaly Gamma Ray Clone

Thanks for this. I had always thought the wort had to be over a certain temperature to bring out the bitterness of the hops and this was why Brewfather didn't add the IBU of dry hop additions. Do you use Brewers Friend primarily? I used it for a while but switched to Brewfather perhaps I'll...

Brewfather IBU anomaly Gamma Ray Clone

Hi, can anyone throw some light on this. If I go to the library in Brewfather and import the Gamma Ray clone I get this. The IBU's coming out as 18. In the DIY Dog book all the hop additions and boil time etc are the same but the IBU is up at 45. Is this a mistake in the DIY Dog recipe or...

    My first AG biab brew

Sounds like you're all good. I'm just coming back to this after a couple of years. I got a bit too scientific/ anal about it all and its actually a very simple/ natural process as long as hygiene and temperatures are good just be patient. There are a lot of people trying to sell "essential"...

First Brew in 2 years, 10% increase in efficiency!

Hello all, its been a while, but I found this website so useful a few years back when I was trying all grain brewing, thought I had to post with my new findings. I just do a 19l BIAB pot on the stove so I find a 4kg grain bill is just about max, can do 5kg for maxi BIAB but it becomes pretty...

Thanks, yeah they’re one of the best from what I’ve read, just thought there might be something closer. Looks like mail order then…

Where to get grain in the Bristol area?

Hi, I hope everyone is well? I’ve had a bit of a break from brewing but want to get a few going ready for Christmas and new year. Does anyone know anywhere near Bristol or more specifically Chepstow that I can pick up a sack of grain? Cheers in advance! Oli

Choc Coffee Oat stout FG 1.020? Is this OK?

Hi, I would be very greatful of any input and thoughts! I've tried to make porters before and they have come out ok. I thought I'd try something different with the left over chocolate malt, brown malt and dark crystal. So I made a 10l brew and as 10 min addition I added 100g of coco and 8...
