    Kenwood KUL55X20 Fridge Information

Thank you, I will be making a similar investment soon and have wondered about the fixings. Although while reading your response the thought of using self-adhesive velcro strips suddenly popped into my head.

    Kenwood KUL55X20 Fridge Information

I wish the online retailers had such informative photos and dimensions. Just one question, what screws have you used to secure the heating tube? I imagine it must be quite difficult to get much hold on thin plastic and polystyrene filler.

Poured 29 bottles down the sink today.

I would agree with Alan, I once threw away an undrinkable batch only to discover 1 remaining bottle 18 months later that by then tasted beautiful. I have also thrown a batch away quite recently because it tasted so awful, through experience I should've known that it might come right one day...

    Raspberry berliner weisse

I doubt it will make much difference, probably just lift the abv from 3.6% to 4%.

    Raspberry berliner weisse

I brewed the same but added 2kg of home grown raspberrys. Its a very fine brew indeed. I would say its the most refeshing brew Ive ever completed, Im doing my utmost to save it for the summer BBQ season but it tastes too good to resist. Initially the sourness is as strong as those haribo sour...

Badger Golden Champion urghh whats that taste?

I adored their golden glory, it was the peachiest beer Ive ever tasted, sadly its been lost to history. Thankfully the memory will allow me to remind all the youngsters that beer was much better in my day. For flavour and smugness factor, it scored a 10 out of 10.

    Show us your brew space/Bar

For 30 years I've enjoyed a good pint with port scratchings, surely a marriage made in heaven. And then along comes a politically correct young whipper-snapper re-classifying my favourite bar snack as salty pig fat. I'm not sure whether to feel guilty or cantankerous, but after 3 pints of...

Wot no dry roasted or pork scratchings! Oops, just noticed your noose for difficult customers, I'll get my coat.

    Empire Ale Yeast

I tried M15 for 2 brews and was dissapointed with the overly sweet outcome due to its low attenuation. Even more annoying is the way the sediment rises when the bottle is opened. I use 1 litre bottles and can only get 1 glass out of each bottle, unless I put it in the fridge for 5 days to...

    Bottling without sediment?

Technically, yes it is possible using under pressure filters and forced carbonation, but its an awful lot of hassle. Reducing the sediment is a much easier option and can be achieved using: Time, give the yeast plenty of time to settle naturally, Finings, Cold crashing. The choice of yeast is...

Re-using a dry hop in a second beer?

I have re-used dry hops for making a hop tea but only for the same brew. They certainly have a little more to give in boiling water but in my opinion theres not enough extra flavour for a second brew.

    Bottling

I use 1L PET bottles this end. Soak, brush and drain in the bath. No-rinse sanitiser in a bottle pump washer. 1 hour waiting and then filled through a little bottler. All in all that takes about 2 hours, and usually requires a bottle of a previous brew to help with the waiting bit. I've found...

    Tight

I bought one of those pretty plastic offerings but you clearly win on value for money and ingenuity. Like yourself I've been banished to the bathroom & spare room too :-(

Yesteryear beers and were they as good as we remember

I feel British beer has roughly followed our music. They started off good and then mass production kind of ruined them (unless you enjoyed fosters and manufactured boy/girl bands). Thankfully the past 10 years has seen a much needed improvement due mainly to CAMRA beer festivals and the...

Adding fruit to a wheat beer

Until very recently we had a massive bed of raspberries in our garden, so they usually ended-up in my beers, wines & ciders. I always blitzed them in a blender and then simmered them in a pan with some sugar & water for 10 minutes to pasteurise them. I then use a fine metal cooks sieve to...

    Lemon drop hops

Ive never used Lemon drop hops in a cider but I have used them in ginger beers, the results were very pleasing.

    Ginger beer

The lemon juice should add anti-oxidant properties, vitamin C and of course a complementary flavour, it shouldn't affect fermentation. I've been adding lemons to my ginger beer for years.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Yes, thats an iphone optical illusion, they are both 18 inch pots, not ideal but hopefully sufficient for a couple of bines for their first season before I transplant them into the ground for next year. Im hoping for a few flowers this year but Im more interested in estabishing a strong root...

I always overfill my FV towards 24 Litres, this gives me exactly 21 one litre bottles.
