    Best Beer Names

Although not technically a beer, this strong scrumpy lives-up to the brewery name.

Spent grain, compost bin and mice

We use a "Green Joanna" hot composter, its brilliant and absolutely rodent safe, although it doesn't stop our cat finding mice elsewhere.

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

Beerworks "Golden Rocket", it's only been in the bottle for 1 week but I couldn't resist. Still Hazy (as expected) but hoppy with full bodied citrus notes and absolutely delicious. At 6% its a little too strong for a session ale, so I'm tempted to miss-out the 1kg of brewing sugar next time to...

Hop pellets - What’s in them

I can't speak for all pellets as most don't have any ingredients listed, however I do recall a packet from one supplier that stated they were 100% hops. Having said that, I suspect citra pellets may also contain magic moonbeams :-)

Can you leave vwp in brewzilla overnight

I've left VWP in clear PET bottles for weeks without any noticeable affects, so I would guess you'll be fine. However I have also left a plastic measuring jug in some VWP and it was ruined within an hour.

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

Tonight I'm rather enjoying a Youngs New World Saison. Dry, refreshing and very much a summer drink in my opinion. Its just a pitty that the weather isn't very summery.

    All-day drinking beer kit?

I agree with the above but you could end up with loads of spare brewing sugars that you've obviously paid for. Alternatively, I would suggest the Mangrove Jacks Craft range. These all quote abvs around 5 to 6% but this is based upon adding extra fermentables. If you were to use these kits...

just what is the average amount of hops used to dry hop?

Absolutely no additional bitterness, Im guessing the hops aren't boiled long enough to isomerise the alpha acids. I'm not fond of overly bitter beers myself, so I use this technique mainly for Hoppy IPA styled extract brews.

just what is the average amount of hops used to dry hop?

I was getting quite disappointed with the hoppiness of my brews, even with 250g of dry hops until I changed my technique recently. This is based upon a few suggestions I've picked-up from other users here. I now ferment short at 20 litres (this also avoids foam-overs) 100g of Dry hops in a...

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

Beerworls "Presidents Sierra" (with an extra 50g of Citra hops), the best kit I've ever tasted, it beats the Youngs AIPA hands down. I would describe it as a near perfect match to Oakham Ales Citra. I'm so impressed I've bought another two, I'm currently fermenting their "Golden Rocket" but...

How to: Balloon CO2 collection (Bruloonlock)

My fingers are too fat to attempt the micro surgery required with the balloon, so I used a 10 litre camping water carrier and a tyre valve and quick release fitting. They're tough as boots, inflate lovely and keep their pressure for months.

    Thoughts on this disaster???

Mankind was brewing long before bacteria or sanitisers were ever discovered, and I'm sure most of them lived to brew another day. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, albeit with a little ring burn.

    Gelatin in FV?

You could just re-market it as "Hazy Wilson", it works for some breweries

Pimp a MJ American Pale Ale?

I'm drinking some MJ APA now, and I must say its not my favourite from the MJ range. Im finding it too sweet and malty with very little hop character. Its more of an English Pale ale than American. My biggest complaint is the low attenuation and the yeast getting disturbed the minute the...

When do you start drinking a new brew?

I usually start drinking mine about a month after bottling. Although I've recently sampled a new brew just 5 days after bottling, it was clear and absolutely beautiful, in fact its tastes better than any other brew in my store room.

    Hop Aroma fade, any solutions?

I believe human taste buds are most sensitive to flavours at 12 degrees celcius, and surprisingly, drinking from a curved glass also increases the apparent fruitiness of a drink.

    Hop Aroma fade, any solutions?

I can't comment on the various hop aroma products but I'm curious to read other members experiences. In terms of the dry hopping, have you tried adding the dry hops to your kegs and leaving them in there? Hundreds of years ago the original IPA's were sailed half way around the world in wooden...

    Kenwood KUL55X20 Fridge Information

Thank you, I will be making a similar investment soon and have wondered about the fixings. Although while reading your response the thought of using self-adhesive velcro strips suddenly popped into my head.
