    First time bottling

A bottle wand will fit onto the end of an auto siphon hose so it isn't absolutely nessacary to rack, however to minimise on sediment being bottled it is better to rack beforehand.

    Transferring beer and wort.

I'm not sure if the GF pump is strong enough on it's own to pump up over 5ft for a sustained period, well worth trying though.

    Transferring beer and wort.

If you could add in a list of what you currently use and what layout/space you have it will give folks a starting point for ideas for you.

    How water proof is grainfather?

The connect may well be a bit more waterproof but it is not good at dealing with the lead getting caught up in your foot, the mains in socket in the bottom of the controller is not held in place at all well, resulting in the socket coming loose and wires coming done inside the controller meaning...

    Mash PH issue..

Different grains can affect your PH in the mash, I would be inclined to verify a PH meter with a litmus strip as well until i was sure that it is reading as it should be, the difference between 5.0 and 6.0 on a strip is fairly obvious. Are the sample readings inside the water report min/max from...

    Review, Grainfather conical fermenter

I've done 3 brews in one of these with a 4th to follow this weekend hopefully. This was a "pro edition/basic cooling" bought from grainfathers own website as at the time they where the only source for the base unit plus dump valve and temp controller as a discounted package, one other thing is...

Keggers: do you force or natural carbonate?

Keg the beer as bright as possible, that should avoid any issues with a bunged up dip tube, if you do let the beer carb naturally you are going to introduce sediment which will cloud the first few pints that you pull thru.

    Bottles without sediment?

A lot of it comes down to cost V ease, a smallish volume of bottles isn't a big deal but then if it's a larger type of do then something like 50 beer drinkers at 4 bottles per head soon adds up. For cost, bottles is certainly the way to go but then ease of use and having more free time to get on...

    Bottles without sediment?

There is a lot to be said for cornies if you are already contemplating them, second hand cornies hold there value so you could buy a couple extra for the wedding and then sell them on once you are done and get your money back, gas, reg and the other odds and ends would be something you would be...

What's the 1 bit of advice you wish someone had given you, which you'd pass on to a new brewer?

    It’s been a long time.

Be sure to give a few Wow's a go, everyone has a different view point and favourite recipe on them but a basic Rose is as good a place to start with them as any, 2l of red grape juice is enough to get you something light and drinkable in 3 weeks.

    Kegging starter kits. Good value?

I can't speak for every setup but the place i part time (sports and social club) in has 11 taps split over two bars, there are 2 gas supplies a lager/ale mixed gas and a guinness mixed gas, every keg has a beer buoy (anti fobbing valve) connected directly after the keg in our cold room, from...

Pressurising my PB, at which point?

It will take at least 2 weeks to build up to a full head of pressure, opening the tap or lid to "check" will not help the situation. If after 2 weeks there is no pressure then you have a leak which is most likely to be in the cap, if it where the valve/tap then you would see beer escaping...

    First AG brew, first questions

Boiling for a bit longer will affect the SG as you are concentrating the wort more, if you added hop additions at 15 mins and then boiled for an extra 15 further mins then they will increase the bitterness. The wort will tend to look a bit darker as it will still have some crud in it...

I’ve bought Beergas (nitro/co2) instead of just co2

The connection type can be different if you use a co2 bottle from the likes of hobbyweld, the same regulator will do but you will need an adaptor which iirc is called co2 to argon.

I’ve bought Beergas (nitro/co2) instead of just co2

If it was me and space or cash isn't the issue I would force carb with pure co2 and use the mixed gas for serving. Just depends if you think the extra effort is worth it for head retention, creaminess and lacing with every pint.
