    Lagering in fermenter

I’ve a similar question. Brew 65 and my first lager, a Dortmunder Export from a Greg Hughes recipe. Primary fermentation has finished after about two weeks at 12 Celsius. Recipe calls for “4 weeks conditioning at 3 degrees”. So, do I leave it in the fermenting vessel, drop the temperature and...

    Blue storage barrel for grain

This is the firm I use, based in N Wales. https://www.dvcontainers.co.uk/ The last ones I bought were previously used for mango chutney but had been well cleaned.

Thanks @Agentgonzo. That makes more sense. I plan to split the 16kg grain bill and do two separate mashes.

    Paradigm Shift

I’m brewing this for the second time, using the recipe from James Morton’s excellent book “Brew”. It calls for an overnight, cold water steep of 1.5kg of Carafa Special 3. Instructions say “Bring 35 litres of water up to 72.5. Include in this your overnight grain poured through a sieve or...

I’d be interested in a bag as well, OB.

The next Malt buy by the South Cheshire Co-operative

I haven’t, as the screw lids are pretty tight when closed. The same supplier sometimes has ones like these that are sealed with a metal clamp. These are 100% airtight. I use them on my open canoe trips and they have never failed. I would have gone for them but they had none in stock when I last...

The next Malt buy by the South Cheshire Co-operative

I I I I use these for my bulk grains. They are 2nd hand food containers. These ones are 45 litre barrels. They hold about 21kg of grain, so not quite a full bag. You would need a 60 litre barrel for a full one. I got them from: https://www.dvcontainers.co.uk/ I’ve no connection with the...

The trick is to keep moisture (& rodents out). My wife buys these for her feathery friends. I reuse them and they just about hold 3 kg.

Best dry yeast for a Belgium Triple

I have had good results for my “Tripel Threat” brews, using the James Morton recipe from his “Brew” book. I usually aim for 25 litres and use 3 packets of MJ31.

Good luck, Chopps. Really enjoyed watching the progress you’ve made in such a short time. That space looked so small when you first showed it but everything fits in so neatly. I’m brewing as well today, so thinking of you and your team. Looking forward to seeing the video after the weekend.

My trip to Belgium and the Cantillon Brewery

My accidental attempt at a sour beer. Tasted odd but very drinkable.

My trip to Belgium and the Cantillon Brewery

I walked there from the station a few years ago (passing through quite a rough looking area of Brussels) only to find it was the one day of the week that they were closed. 😩 I’ve also visited the St Bernadus brewery which was good, but the best one for me was Het Anker in Mechelen.
