    Peco boiler

I can also highly recommend the Peco boiler from the Homebrew Company for brew in a bag brewing but as mentioned above you need to also purchase a hop strainer to fit in the back of the tap to prevent blockages. I've done 3 brews with mine now and think its great.

2nd All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) - American Pale Ale

Thanks for the advice! I bought a 25kg sack of pale malt and a selection of the extract kits to try before I start trying to formulate my own recipes. Buying the extract kits from HBC means that you get the grains and the hops weighed out and most of their kits just require you to add the pale...

2nd All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) - American Pale Ale

2nd All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) - HBC American Pale Ale I brewed my second AG batch on 17/01/16 which was an American Pale Ale kit from HBC. This kit was part of their partial extract range but I substituted the malt extract for 5.2kg of BestMalz Pale Malt. The kit comes with: - Grain -...

If it can happen it will happen Part Deux the AG Saga...

My hop strainer blocked on my first AG brew day which resulted in me stirring up the sediment and transferring a lot of the trub from the boiler to the FV. The wort was very cloudy at first but when it was bottled on Monday the majority of the sediment had dropped out of suspension and the wort...

1st All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) HBC American Double IPA Mash Kit

The holes are most of the way round the pipe but my filter has nowhere near the number of holes in it that yours has Spapro so I will have a go at drilling some additional holes in the swept bend connectors as you have suggested. Just by twisting the filter so that it sat a couple of inches...

1st All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) HBC American Double IPA Mash Kit

Thanks Spapro, I'll try drilling holes in the two connectors then to try and increase the flow. I have since completed my second all grain brew, which I will try and post a write up on when I get a chance, and I followed Leon's suggestion of twisting the filter round so that it was a couple of...

1st All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) HBC American Double IPA Mash Kit

Update: I added the dry hop/ hop tea addition on day 10 as directed and bottled on day 14 on Monday (25/01/16). The smell from the FV was fantastic and the FG was down to 1.011 from 1.062 (estimated FG was 1.012) so after priming it will end up about 6.7%. I have bottled the batch...

    Brew Day : Hobgoblin Clone

Nice write up and photos, looks like a great day. I'm interested to see whether the new sparging method does cure your chill haze problems being new to BIAB myself. Thanks for posting.

First AG - and massive calamity...

Excellent, I'm glad it worked for you. Mine now reads within 0.5c of my other digital thermometer after the repair so seems to be accurate. The important thing is to prevent the joint between the stainless probe and the wire from being submerged in water/wort as this is what causes the...

First AG - and massive calamity...

Hi, Not sure if your digital thermometer is similar in design to mine but I have also had problems half way through a brew day where my thermometer began reading ridiculous temperatures. Mine is a cheap digital thermometer with a probe connected via a wire (from eBay). I was able to repair mine...

1st All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) HBC American Double IPA Mash Kit

Right OK thanks, I'll try rotating the elbow around then so that the strainer sits an inch or so off the bottom of the boiler on my next brew.

1st All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) HBC American Double IPA Mash Kit

Thanks Covrich, I did notice that the sample in the trial jar cleared during the time it took me to do the rest of the cleanup so hopefully I'll end up with a reasonable brew :) The hop strainer was bought in addition to the HBC BIAB Kit and is a copper pipe (maybe 15mm) with drilled holes...

1st All Grain Brew Day (BIAB) - HBC American Double IPA Mash Kit 11/01/16 I got the HBC BIAB starter kit for Christmas and have been keen to make the move from kits to AG. I had a free day yesterday so decided to make up the American Double IPA mash kit that came supplied with the starter...

Hi Ian, I too received the HBC BIAB Starter kit for Christmas and I am keen to get started making the leap from kits to AG. Thanks for taking to time to post this detailed account of your first BIAB experience, it seems to have gone very well! I hope your Citra IPA turns out well and I will be...
