    My first brew

Interesting. 500ml guidance is 1.5 tabs and 2 tabs for a 750ml bottle (which mine were) So maybe this is why your head looks so good as you used a bit more....

    My first brew

That’s a.Great looking head on that! Did you use sugar or carbonation drops in the bottles? (I ask as I want overly impressed with the level of carbonation in my first brew using drops but it was an ale so maybe as expected)

    Bavarian Pilsner with Kölsch yeast..

Good point Trapdoor. I have zero experience with Kölsch yeast but from what i have read about it, a large cake can remain (and even get hard) after fermentation has ended. So crashing that much of a cake back into the FV might not be a good idea as you say. Perhaps I should scoop it off before...

    Bavarian Pilsner with Kölsch yeast..

so does the same temperature change best practices apply to reducing temperature also? Does that not contradict cold crash ? Would I be better gradually lower to lagering temp of around 2deg instead and leave it there for 2 weeks?

    Bavarian Pilsner with Kölsch yeast..

Ummm... is it too late to claim I just had a brain fart?? 😂 Yeah, now that you say it it’s pretty darn obvious I guess that it’s not dictated by the yeast. I think what threw me off is that the Coopers lager used as the base doesn’t require lagering (as per instructions at least)... so it...

    Bavarian Pilsner with Kölsch yeast..

Aha! Good you pointed that out as I didn’t know that about the gradual temp increase - why is that? 1.5 is quite accurate. I can only increase the storeroom temperature to increase the FV temperature. So I can’t guarantee I’d be able to be that precise. Maybe I should just leave it at a solid...

    Bavarian Pilsner with Kölsch yeast..

Thanks Trapdoor. Hoping it still comes out Pilsner-ish .... I’m guessing the Saas hope will do their trick 😂 when you say it doesn’t need that long at warm temp, do you mean the 7days at 20 deg in 1st Ferm?

    Bavarian Pilsner with Kölsch yeast..

Morning all.... As the title says, i'm currently brewing a Bavarian Pilsner - using one of the 'Customise your Coopers Can' recipes from Aussiehomebrewing. Those recipes dont give any recomendation on the yeast to use so I assume they expect you to use the one that comes with the can. So me...

    Ambient temperature advise for brewing..

So the necessary weeks passed (...slowly 😂 ) and my Amber Ale first attempt is ready since Jan 4th. Overall I’m quite pleased... and hope it will mature even better over the weeks. It’s a nice color, very very clear (I think). I think the only thing I’d do differently is perhaps use sugar...

    Brew#2 - Bavarian Pilsner

Thanks JiiPee...Im thinking I could reduce everything by 10% anyway... Interested to have an answer/opinion on the yeast question though... so any other opinions greatly appreciated as I hope to brew already this afternoon.... (P.S: your name JiiPee is phonetically exactly the way JP is...

    Brew#2 - Bavarian Pilsner

Hi guys - I’m about to start brew #2 this weekend. I'm going for a ‘Bavarian Pilsner’ to use up a Coopers can I have on hand. Ingredients I'll use are as follows, but I have 3 questions please: 1 can of Coopers Lager (Original series, the one that comes with the brew kit) 500g Dextrose 300g...

    My first brew

Good stuff! Having just finished my first one also (need to update my thread though) it’s been a really interesting process. 1st time needs patience though. I’ll start my second one this weekend I think (Bavarian Pilsner)..... I’ll have to empty some bottles of the first brew however before my...

Anyone made a ‘Red Baron Bock’?

Hi guys, I have a Coopers lager kit to use up and wondering if anyone has made the below Coopers recipe? I’m wondering how dark this is going to be.... any info welcome.. thanks! RED BARON BOCK A beautiful German style dark lager. 1 can of Coopers Draught 1 kg Light Dry Malt Extract 150g...

    Ambient temperature advise for brewing..

Yes all the bottles have expanded as expected and are tight now, so the carbonation has definitely happened. It’s just flatter than I expected.... but maybe as it’s Amber Ale this is the normal level? Plus I’m probably comparing to commercial beers which may be gassier.

    Ambient temperature advise for brewing..

Yes, my understanding was that after the cold crash the 2 weeks carbonation is done at the same brewing temp as the 1st fermentation. Then into cold conditioning after for another 2 weeks.....

    Ambient temperature advise for brewing..

Well, I must confess! I opened one this evening even though I know it needs 2 more weeks... but it was really for comparison purposes to see how improved it would be in another 2+ weeks. As this is my first attempt I don’t have a reference point on the aging process.... so it genuinely was for...

    Ambient temperature advise for brewing..

@Datanode101 I used the carbonation drops that came with the kit.... simples! 😀 So now today it can go for the final 2 weeks of conditioning. What’s the optimal temperature for this as it’s an Ale? Is 4-5deg too cold?

    Ambient temperature advise for brewing..

All done! In the end I figured buying San Star instead of the sanitizer the brew shop had sold me was the simplest route. And the Vinator Spin is a brill little piece of kit, totally worth €9 for bottling ease. So, now I wait..... again.... 😂
