    Young’s Harvest Barley Wine

I remember trying Gold Label when I got my membership to the local war memorial club at erm sort of 18. My tastes may have changed slightly but I cant remember being so keen... can you still buy it?

    Hopeless Newbie

Im a newbie myself, my only advice would be to avoid plastic pressure barrels (which it sounds like you’re doing). Bottle and/or corny keg all the way. I know plenty of folk get on with them but from my limited experience the PBs are just too compromised in terms of sealing, charging and pouring.

    How to make Turbo Cider.

Interested to try TC given some of the rave reviews expressed. Some questions.... In the interest of saving the planet (or just being cheap!) I have some 5L water bottles left over from my latest brew, could I use one with an airlock as an FV and then another for storage of still cider once...

    Muntons Hand Crafted Belgian Ale

Another person jacking an old thread- but I’ve just stuck this brew in the FV so will report back on progress. Only slight cock up I made is that I accidentally made it 1 litre long (in my defence Im on my second week of paternity leave, was cooking dinner at the same time and had a 3 year...

    Brew buckets

Is there any any real difference between your boggo fermenting bucket and any of the more expensive options out there for your average home brewer? If you believe there is then links and justification please!

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

Vikings on Amazon Prime. Absolutely stunningly shot and engaging story. Theyve just released the final series as well. (Oh and Katheryn Winnick is in it - 😛)

    Covid-19 the second wave.

Generating hysteria? Hardly. Amazed that’s what you took from that post. Since the start of lockdown I have been doing some shopping, picking up prescriptions and doing odd gardening jobs when I can for people who have requested help from our PC. Three people in particular have not left their...

    Covid-19 the second wave.

No, if I had meant stupid I would have said it. You either missed or chose not to reference the point where I explained there were reasons why it may not apply to everyone. A misunderstanding of how the vast majority of people live? Oh really, because you are more supremely qualified are you...

    Covid-19 the second wave.

if you are working in the proximity of others you must be in the key worker box, therefore if you are liable to infect others you should get a test. The rest of the population who are sat at home shouldnt be seeing anybody (apart from the exceptions) so therefore will not infect anyone else

    Covid-19 the second wave.

You’re being obtuse. like I said- personal situations vary, kids going to school is one of them. There are the main symptoms listed on the NHS and .gov websites. If you have one, or all, of these - you stay in your house as per isolation rules and with the caveats I mentioned. For the people...

    Covid-19 the second wave.

You do realise the tests used are proven to be unreliable and likely to give false positives for a whole host of reasons dont you? Quite frankly unless somebody is a front line healthcare worker or has to leave the house for (key) work, I fail to see why anyone else would get a test. If you...

    New member/new brewer

thanks Damien, appreciate the response. The silly thing is our ancestors have been brewing for hundreds of years without all of our tech and managed fine - we have step by step instructions and worry like anything! I suppose the barrel is far more forgiving than bottles so it cant go too badly...

    New member/new brewer

thanks for the response.... - Ive managed to keep it at between 18 and 20 ambient thanks to a little portable heater and it being left undisturbed (apart from some idiot keep checking the temperature!) in my study. This is slightly lower than the instructions which say 20-25. Obviously this...

    New member/new brewer

Hi guys, I’m new to brewing and decided to take the plunge and ask Santa to bring me a brew starter kit for Christmas. He did and also a Festival Belgian Pale Ale kit which I thought would be a good starter for ten. i’ve been lurking in the background, developing my knowledge with some good...
