    Clear beer

I fill the bottles straight from the FV as I fill the bottles last, therefore would imagine there is a greater likelihood of sediment in them as well, as it does tend to get a little more stirred up towards the end of transfer. I'm sure someone will be on who understands the science - it’s been...

    Clear beer

Having recently kegged a brew and bottled the excess I had to have a quick check at the weekend. The beer from the keg resting in the fridge is gently carbonating to serving pressure, but remains far from clear. The beer in the bottles is in a dark warm cupboard and is crystal clear and, from...

Floaty stuff in the bottom of my cider

Sounds like a lovely place to visit does that, lots of oo arrr from the locals though! 😜 Im no expert but it looks similar to mine, which from the taste I assume to be tiny bits of apple solids and maybe a bit of yeast. The stuff on top looked slightly more concerning tbh?

    One Percent

Whilst I recognise a proportion of NHS staff (not just nurses) have had an exceptionally tough year, it feels to me quite insensitive to justify arguing a significant increase when a decent proportion of the private sector have either lost their employment or had their income significantly...

    The Great Watney's debate

Being of a certain vintage, Id not heard of Watneys until their recent re-launch. However I mentioned it to my Dad and lets just say the review was not very positive and rather colourful in language. From his description (and the comments here), I can only assume the attempt to bring this brand...

    Hammer of Thor - Kegged?

Well thats restraint-5 weeks! Glad to know I havent made a mess of it- the cloudiness seemed to come from the hop teabag. Mine does taste like a lager in terms of the hop profile, but it is strong. I’ll leave it alone for a couple more weeks I think and see how it progresses!

    Hammer of Thor - Kegged?

I kegged this last sunday and the thor is definitely not clear and the hop taste matches a very strong lager. Does the clarity improve and the hop taste subside slightly? It’s not unpleasant but its stronger than expected. Carbing is light atm, may have to crank it up slightly.

    Spray malt priming

Ive done it (mixed spraymalt) with boiling water, but you need to stir like a demon. However to appease the mrs for all the time youre wasting making beer (again) if you save some and add a little baileys and sugar at the end it makes a very reasonable hot drink!

Why Turbo cider over a kit?

Agree on the lowest possible cost, but also assume a part of it is that supermarket standards are so high. They want pretty/perfect/uniform produce, so everything that isnt is only fit for juicing. I would imagine the yield an industrial set up gets from an apple is in excess of what we’d get at...

Why Turbo cider over a kit?

Sh1ts and giggles! For me it was more the experimental aspect, using some 5L bottles left over from beer brewing and only a few (cheap) extra bits. I was also able to pimp it to how I fancied- a kit would have been less interesting somehow.

You are stuck in quarantine with only one bottled beer (which would be your choice)

If its G4S nipping down to Tescos with my debit card Id have to say Leffe for me. Big enough to send you to sleep after 10 of them, pretty refreshing and has some complexity but not enough to make you avoid it with your full english the next morning. If you can choose anything then a chilled...
