    Sodium Percarbonate Purchase Warning

I just wanted to put up a warning to others here about a recent poor sales experience when buying sodium percarbonate on t’interweb. I found a website called Ellcon (maybe there was a clue in the name!). 2kg of SP for just over £6 plus £3 delivery. ETA was 3-5 days. Ordered on a Monday thinking...

    Bohemian Blonde Pils Fermentation

I started one of these on Monday and posted about the temp for this yeast. The instructions do say 20-25deg but as close to 20 as poss. I raised the query as to anyone knew what type of yeast it was, but havent had a response. I think its a type of californian lager yeast which tolerates a much...

Adding sugar in stages, how do you calculate the ABV?

Good advice, but what method did you use to calculate the final ABV, John? Did you estimate the gravity points based on weight of sugar, added to OG? Did you use Lisa’s method as described above or some other black magic not yet described?

Adding sugar in stages, how do you calculate the ABV?

Oh its on now Lisa! 😜 I wonder who will come out victorious in the great ABV calculating methodology debate?! Genuinely interested to find out if they give similar/the same answer!

Adding sugar in stages, how do you calculate the ABV?

1kg of sugar should add 0.018 gravity points to your OG (assuming 100% fermentable). Therefore OG+0.018 = 1.11 At new FG that equals 14.4% Been there and had the head scratching myself! This seemed to be the most correct answer I could come up with and was ratified by others on here. Hope...

    Does Kit Fermenting Smell?

I ferment in my study and the smell is noticeable whilst the airlock is chugging, but subsides considerably after that

    Brew works Bohemian Blonde Pils

Started the above kit tonight and a lager yeast is included, with the instructions suggesting fermentation at 20-25deg but as close to 20 as possible. Does anybody know what type of yeast is included, and whether I may be better off fermenting cooler as per typical lager yeasts? OG 1.056 (I...

    Self parking cars.

Apparently I have park assist on both of my cars but have never used it because....*shock horror*..... I can park. Anyone who cant park shouldnt be in charge of a couple of tons of motor. I do like the adaptive cruise control auto pilot which matches the speed of the vehicle in front and steers...

    Hydrometer reading (with pics)

The thick line with ‘1000’ above it is 1.000. Every line underneath is on a scale of 0.002. Therefore 3 thin lines under the thick 1000 line equals 1.006 etc Hope this helps fella

    Hydrometer reading (with pics)

You’re better off leaving it for 30 mins or so and letting the bubbles disappear. You also need to make sure you spin/tap the hydrometer a couple of times to make sure there arent any bubbles affecting the reading. If I had to guess from your pictures, which is tough with the bubbles in the way...

    Clear beer

Yes, that experiment is next on my list but will be the end of the week to give them a full two weeks to fully carb in the bottle. Was hoping somebody cleverer than me could set me straight! Is there any way to combat chill haze (apart from the obvious)?
