    First Brew - First Mistake

After 24 hours the thin single row of tiny bubbles has increased to four or five thick and I can see the occasional Co2 bubble floating up from the bottom of the fermentor. The left side of the airlock has decreased to about a 1/4 and the right side is now at 3/4. I think that's good news!

    First Brew - First Mistake

Makes sense. If that's the only dud I've bought it's not the end of the world. Shame, as it's a Northern Brewer herculometer so I never thought to research much further into it. Kind of like ending up with a thermometer that starts at 75 degrees celsius :laugh8: Still with the amount of...

    First Brew - First Mistake

Thanks everyone for the advice! I guess we'll wait and see what happens. It's a shame to steal the yeast from the Evil Dog kit as I don't want to mess with it too much having read such good reviews. I've just seen that the local supplier I'll be using for ingredients has a lot of options though...

First batch - should I boil the water?

Interesting! I guess I hadn't thought much about it... It's alpine spring water that is (presumably treated and) bottled at the factory and then shipped out to shops all over Italy and Europe. The spring itself is maintained by the same company, but whether this means they treat it or simply...

    First Brew - First Mistake

Hey guys! So the time finally came to test out the new kit and brew my first beer. I brewed up a can of Coopers Pale Ale with the brew enhancer and am currently waiting for it to ferment. I messed up something at the start though and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this and how...

First batch - should I boil the water?

Our water comes from a spring here in the mountains that is maintained by a large mineral water company. We have long suspected that the tap water is almost identical, but I'm not sure of the mineral content. It's great water, let's give it a go...

First batch - should I boil the water?

Hi guys! I'm about to start preparing for my first batch - a Coopers Pale Ale kit. Now, originally all my research involved EG kits with a boil. However this one is simply done in the fermentor so no boil needed. I'm thinking though, is it risky to use tap water without having boiled it...

    Half Price Big Mouth Bubblers

Hey guys, So I'm a newbie and I've only just started receiving my first bits of kit, but the site I bought from seems to be selling a lot of essentials pretty cheap for now. The main thing is the Big Mouth Bubblers both siphon less and standard are half off. I'm not sure if they still ship to...

Coopers Australian Pale Ale Can - What exactly did I buy?

Thank you guys! So I guess Coopers package it this way to leave the door open for a bit of customisation and experimenting then? Makes sense. I'm pretty positive - just being in the mountains here means I need to get everything online so it'll be another wait before the right stuff arrives...

Coopers Australian Pale Ale Can - What exactly did I buy?

Hi guys! Newbie here. I'm yet to do my first batch as I'm waiting on a delivery of some bits. However I found the Coopers range in the supermarket here of all places and picked one up having been promised by the can that 'everything' was included. Obviously not everything is included at all...

How to choose the right kits?

Ok I guess I'll have to start reading those chapters on designing recipes earlier than anticipated. So my initial searches to find ingredients are coming up difficult. Presumably I am expected to switch out grains, yeast and malt extract that isn't available with equivalent or similar ones...

How to choose the right kits?

Thank you! I was under the impression that all-grain were a step further than what I was ready for, but according to How To Brew aren't so scary. The Chinook has a liquid malt extract, speciality grains to steep and hops to add at various intervals. I'd be happy to go all-grain too if it opened...

How to choose the right kits?

Hi guys, Newbie here waiting on equipment and a custom kit from Northern Brewer to arrive (Chinook IPA). I'm looking ahead to my second batch and I've realised that a lot of the kits I was eyeing up are 'pre-hopped' or 'in a can' and basically skip the boiling stage. I really want to brew...

Beer Hawk Giving Up Home Brew?

I was recommended to go there to buy the Northern Brewer Deluxe kit but they only had it in stock through Amazon which wouldn't ship here. I checked their site and they had it at 50% off (a crazy price for the kit) but it was out of stock. So whilst I think you may be onto something, when I...

what is the best beer you have ever tasted?

I think that's it - there's a national beer called Ceres that's advertised everywhere too, about 9%abv. Whilst I don't know anyone who drinks it culturally it makes sense. You go out and have one, two beers tops and you drink slowly. I have to explain to people the reasoning behind a 'session'...

what is the best beer you have ever tasted?

Impossible to say without context... I used to love grabbing a Sierra Nevada at the Wetherspoons next to work every evening as I'd just changed careers and started working part-time and that beer was my reward for taking my life back from the 9-5. Same bottle I'd get from the shops but it was...

Sega or Nintendo? (Also a newbie, little else to add)

    Ready to go!

That's exactly where I found everything! It was tough to get it all in one place. Super helpful staff as well. They even checked through my order and alerted me to a couple of things I'd accidentally doubled up on. There's a road trip :) We still haven't made the trip to Germany apart from a...

    Ready to go!

Hey guys, Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've recently bought a house in Italy after leaving the UK a few years back and we have a lot more space than I ever managed to get living in the city :) So naturally my lifelong curiosity about home brewing is about to be explored. Moreover...

Method Variations - What effect will they have?

Thanks Simon! I should've mentioned where the info came from... I'm planning to get the Northern Brewer deluxe kit, and the instructions came from their 'how-tos'.
