    Lager brewing

I’ve used Mangrove Jacks California lager yeast many times, it ferments at room temperature (18-20C) very well.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

A test bottle of my hefeweizen, code name banana bomb! I deliberately fermented this at 24 degrees to get as much banana out of the yeast as I could. Only been in the bottle a week so no head retention at all, but it is a bit fizzy for a while. I’ve got it smelling like a banoffee pie (but it...

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

That was my thought RE the chiller as everything else seems ok (based on my limited experience with AG).

    St Peters IPA Kit Trouble/Mistakes

Like an English IPA, not too hoppy but a nice hop bitterness is present on the aftertaste. Nice malty presence but again, not too much. It’s very well balanced on both the malt and bitterness.

    St Peters IPA Kit Trouble/Mistakes

I’ve done this kit and it turned out well. I don’t recall the instructions saying to add more sugar, the two cans of malt extract you get with it should be enough, it will (as has been said) just have a bit more of a kick to it! I noticed that this didn’t bubble the airlock much after about a...

    Mangrove Jack's American IPA

Excellent, lots of banana but I put that down to fermenting it at around 24-22 degrees (deliberately) then dropping to 18-20. I prefer more of the banana character in a hefeweizen. I found for the best results was to ferment it for 2 weeks as it didn’t hit FG until about day 12. Other than...

    Mangrove Jack's American IPA

My Mangrove Jacks hefeweizen did that, every hefeweizen I’ve tried does it haha. I was guided to the joys and saviour that are blow off tubes from a member here. Definitely worthwhile for the more lively ones.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

Just an IPA I prepared earlier. Two weeks again it was bottled, so this is (another) tester to make sure it’s gone ok. I can report that it has gone very well. Just need to chill the rest of the batch and come to it as and when.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

My own IPA ( St. Peter’s kit) just a tester bottle as it’s been conditioning for 2 weeks, just to test if it’s carbonated properly ;)

Hefeweizen is a touch on the lively side, krausen everywhere!

Thank you, I will get something rigged up. This M20 yeast doesn’t mess around! 24 hours now and it’s manic!

Hefeweizen is a touch on the lively side, krausen everywhere!

Hello all, As the title says, I only brewed and put into the FV yesterday afternoon, a hefeweizen. I know they can be lively when fermenting (and I’m happy it is (clearly) doing so!). Question is the krausen has filled the airlock and it’s spitting and popping like my old mk3 escort. Other...
