    Capping sanatized bottles

I take it you mean 40 minutes from when the oven reaches 150°C?

    Priming sugar type question

I hope so 😗. Just need to decide on the next brew. Fancy doing a very small batch extract pilsner style with Californian common yeast, maybe only 3L

    Priming sugar type question

I bottled my Cwtch 10 days ago after batch priming with Dextrose. Really looking forward to trying a bottle in another couple of weeks.

    Tom caxton real ale

Just noticed this post and am interested in giving this recipe a go. However, as a fairly newbie, I have some questions, that I am sure will have some of you rolling in the aisles 😗. 1. Is the 3kg of light malt extract, liquid of powder? 2. I take it that the yeast is the MJ M54 one?. 3. You...

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

There was no way mine was going that low! I simply couldn't have left it any longer as the hop pellets had been in 5 days, and the hydrometer had been static for a couple of days.

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

The instructions say to make up to 20 litres, which is what I did.

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

From the experienced brewers on here, I am following the 2 weeks in the warm and 2 weeks in the cool before I sample. I expect that I will leave some much longer. I have bottled a couple in clear glass so I can see how it clears.

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

All bottled now. Got 38 500ml bottles as I was a bit too careful not to disturb the trub. Now the waiting game starts again 😗

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

So, getting ready to bottle tonight and will be batch priming with dextrose. The instructions suggest a maximum of 85g spraymalt, but how does that figure convert to dextrose? Thanks

    how to calculate ABV

    Thanks. Makes sense

    how to calculate ABV

So I assume, that if you are brewing say from a kit, with a stated ABV, using the SG and ABV, you can calculate the FG you are likely to see?

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

Well, it's still on 1010, so I reckon it's about there. I simply cannot see it getting any lower, certainly not 1004 and as I added the second dose of hop pellets on Monday, it wouldn't be ideal to wait any longer. So, ice packs added to the water bath and I will change them tomorrow morning...

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

SG now 1010, so will check again tomorrow 🤞 Should I try to cold crash (ice or ice packs in the water bath) before bottling? I intend to transfer to another FV, batch prime and bottle from that.

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

Well I hope this one ends up as good as it has started. Fermentation activity really slowed down so I will take readings tomorrow onwards, hopefully bottling Saturday. Just have to hope the hot weather doesn't upset the process as the FV is in the garage

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

Update time: Hydrometer reading today (day 8) is 1013. Good thick krausen and lovely smell. Added both sachets of hop pellets with a view to bottling on Saturday, subject to steady readings. Obviously I didn't want to empty the trial sample back in so had to have a little taste. Still fizz on...

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

Perfect sense, thanks. It says leave for 4 to 6 days after dry hopping. The 14 days comes from what I have read on here about not taking as gospel, what the instructions state with regards to getting into bottles.

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

So the kit arrived on Friday and I started the process on Sunday, pitching the yeast at 16:00. The OG was 1045. Primary fermentation showed signs of starting at around 7:30 this morning and was soon 'audibly active'. Mind you, I am beginning to think the air lock I purchased is going to annoy...

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

Just ordered Cwtch from Brew 2 Bottle along with a few bits and pieces, so hopefully, next week I can get up and running. As they say 'watch this space' athumb..

Looking for a Ruby ale kit

Big trouble I seem to have is actually finding a kit that is in stock. Hope it's not too long before I can start, ideally the cwtch, from everything that I have read
